Default Bringing life back to a brush.

Ok maybe that's a bit far. I picked up this brush at an antiques store and want to start using it. It has the smell of an antiques store with a very faint touch of lather.

What steps should I take before I actually take it to my face?Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1332875760.887040.jpg

Is there a good substitute for the borax?

Well I gave it a few rounds of shampoo as well as a couple rounds of palm lathering. And it lathers quite nicely for a small knot. It still had a little smell of wet dog so I have it soaking in a ten minute or so bath with dish soap along with the de in the picture with it.

I'd use some anti-bacterial soap somewhere in the cleaning process.

For some reason that is so ridiculously common sense and didn't cross my mind. So thank you bigspendur. The dish soap certainly helped along with a little aftershave rubbed in just because I love the smell.

Speaking of which I have been trying to find some sort of information like a date range on this brush but have no such luck. I enjoy knowing what decade all of my shaving equipment comes from.
