hi guys
I want to restore a brush and a knot of NIB back in place instead of the old boar.
Now I sit with a dilemma, it is a brush with a grome ring on top.
Bottom ring is 28 mm and top of the ring is 24mm.

What size should I buy 24 and the rest of the space filled with epoxy, or rubber or something.
Or 28mm, and push the hairs through the 24mm hole ?
What will come out neater to see?
I wonder if the ring didn't begin straight through and through and then they used a tool to shape the top to 24mm after the knot was in place ? Seems to me it would be difficult to squeeze 28mm into a 24mm opening without damaging bristles. I've no experience with this though so maybe it is easier than I'm thinking. :gl:
I would not think twice about it as I like a knot sunk a bit or an o-ring at the handle to tighten them up. However, I think a good selection of 26mm knots are to be had with TGN? Seems I saw a premium 27 there as well. You could open the top of the hole to 27 and go with the 28 knot. That's what my preference would be as I see what you have. I feel you could use some rubber bands on the knot and pull it thru fairly easy, get it where you want it, and glue/epoxy it from the back. Sure to be nice!
I had the same problem with this brush I did. I had to go with the smaller size since I couldn't slide it up through the bottom. With mine I had to really make sure the top ring was smooth or the bristles would rub on it and get cut off.

I think I would go with a 24mm they usually are +/- 1mm (I think) if that's the top of your opening. I think it would be difficult to drill out or file out the 24mm side of the cap to a larger size and have it turn out nice, for me anyway. You could alway feed the knot through the bottom. I used cork for a metal brush handle I'm restoring to set the loft. Although I haven't finished mine yet, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. After you use the brush it will bloom and look much nicer. The alternative would be to buy a 24mm and a 28mm and do a fit test.
Ok thanks guys. I think im order one in the middle, the 26 mm (base size 25/26mm) i can alway make the base fit, when i order i ask the vendor that he ship one whit a 25mm base.
Think im going to us a O ring to hold him on his place, than epoxy to fill up the rest. Some cork to set the base and some 2 component glue to get it together.
