What brush would you get if you had 50 bucks to spend?

After a week of using it, the funk is no longer detectable unless I smell the brush itself. As a longer brush, it's a little more "paintbrushy" (I can make words up too!!) than I like, but it does make a superior lather and much faster than the CVS special.

I alternate between hand lathering and face. Either way, it builds up a great lather fast even with the cheap Williams puck I'm using right now. I can only imagine that when I switch to the Van Der Hagen it will make double the lather. Both lathering on the face and application, I find this brush a little "pinchier" than my el cheapo. It's a little annoying.

It's very well constructed, and I only find one or two hairs in the sink after a shave compared to the many many I used to find with the old brush.

I hope as it ages the pinch will diminish. If that happens, I will have a great brush! Next to be ordered will be the Silvertip from Whipped Dog pictured here:

The one my Grandfather showed me how to use, sadly lost to time, I would pay much more than 50.00 to have it back.

WSP Prince 2 band or 3 band. Incredible value for the money.

OOps, looks like you made your selection and I should have rolled through the replies. How is the Vie Long working for you. Looks like a great handle and some heft with the metal ring.

It is working well. I needed something longer that wouldn't bang into the sides of my scuttle and the VL does a good job even with my CVS green box soap puck.

The only thing I don't like is that it's still "pinchy" compared to the badger brush I got from The Whipped Dog. But not so much that I won't use it. The badger is a shorty I use for travel. Makes a lather in a palm in no time flat.

My 50 dollar budget is used up. But once I finish getting the hones and a few more razors I will try to find a badger with the right length for the Georgetown Pottery scuttle.mAttachment 134909

What happened was I really got a little bit of an education. Instead of blowing 50 on one brush, I decided to add two different brushes to my original CVS 8 buck special and actually learned a lot.

I learned that length is important (isn't it always? Lol) when you use a scuttle, as is the size of the handle. I also learned I like badger over horsehair.

I know now that my ideal brush is really two brushes, one short one for building up a lather in my hand or directly on my face, and one long brush to clear the sides of my scuttle and make a nice lather.

I also learned that in both cases I like badger the best because its soft and feels good on my face.
