I intend to make some brushes and I hear the cheapest way to get some boar knots is to buy Omega ones and remove the knots. But how does one do that?

there are some excellent tutorial on this forum just type in knot removal in the advanced search box and it should link you to them. it mostly depends on what the brush handle is made of and the tools you have available to decide which method to choose. keep us posted and feel free to ask questions.
You can always try the Bay too!!

Be careful using the "steam" method. I blanched and totally distorted an EverReady trying to get the knot out for a restore. The handle turned milky white, and the resin holding it in wasnt even phased. It was not 2 part, 5 minute epoxy thats for sure. More like fiberglass resin.
The best way,IME,is cut the knot flush to the handle, use a 1/4 inch drill to make a series of holes around the middle of the knot.than get in there with plyers to pull the hairs out, works every time.
