Father's Day Chubby 1

For my first try at a wood brush I decided to give a shot at a Chubby since it's one of my favorite styles.
Going to give this one to my dad for Father's Day. I've got another knot waiting so I'll have a go at another one. It's not perfect and I almost destroyed it when trying to part it off the stock. But man is it fun. And satisfying!
24 mm 2 band, loft set at 41 mm for some good face lathering. Made from African black wood - could have done better on polishing it out. Criticism welcome!

No criticism here, I love it !!....I've wanted a Simpson's Chubby No.1 but have baulked at the price,
so I've been looking for something similiar. Glad to see someone's having a go.

Keep making 'em to that standard of quality and you'll be getting a LOT of private enquiries :tu

Try putting some RenWax on that baby... It is a GREAT product to shine stuff up!

That looks fantastic my friend,One way to do a final polish before the knot is set is to use a deepwell socket chucked in the lathe that is a close fit to the bore,you can use electrical tape to get a tight fit,than spin away.looks great.

I love it! Simpsons' Chubby 1 is the next brush on my list...

That's a great idea - I was trying to think of a way to hold that guy in the knot bore. Thanks!
I went up to 1000 grit and it feels super smooth, just doesn't have the luster.

I tried some renwax on it which helped (picture shows it a little more dull than real life). Maybe I didn't get the surface prepped good enough.

I like the luster it has, that low satin finish looks awesome. The knot and the wood flow together very well. I'm sure your Dad will love it! Excellent work!

You nailed the shape of the chubby handle perfectly. If your father is a face latherer that short loft ought to be a real hum dinger. Nice job.

Yeah he was using my grandfather's DE and Williams soap for years (not that there's anything wrong with that). The DE was damaged so I got him a nice Gillette slim adjustable and some MdC a while ago. Now with the brush the old man is set up!

A Chubby may cost a bunch but your dad is going to have one that is priceless. Fine job again , keep it up. :<0)

Well here's part two. I felt like the loft was too short on the first one. So here's the same design, with 45 mm loft, and tambuti wood. Silvertip grade A knot.

Thanks. Handle is 1.8" high, total is about 3.65". So it prob closer to 47mm loft.

Tell your dad to give the brush a sniff every morning,the sandlewood smell lasts forever.

That is a great looking brush.

Both are great looking, job well done but the longer loft definitely looks the treat and like it would be the easier on the face :tu :tu
