Walleyeman to the rescue!
I went to Texas Knifemaker's supply down the road for some silver rod. They had some nice conchos of the seal of the State of Texas, so I got one in silver and one in brass. Decided to finish my 'dipped in Rustoleum' handles (remember that! :rofl2:) with these seals on the base. I wet sanded the handles and shot them with clear. The result was great! Like candied apples! As I assembled the larger (26mm 2 band) one with Goop, I tried to shove it as deep as I could. As I was twisting and shoving, I broke the bakelite Noonan Red Top. Kindof pissed, but I got it apart and cleaned off the Goop as best I could. I lamented how most vintage handles were not deep enough to set a big badger properly.
What I needed was a duplicate top in brass, taller than the original. But how?
I remembered Ray making the brass-topped brushes and contacted him. Soon, the whole mess went his way!
I explained that a light press-fit would work fine as I was going to epoxy the thing together, but Ray is a machinist!
He made threads! :D
So I epoxied it, screwed it together and also epoxied the knot in. What a sweet Texas brush! :y
Ray refused payment and is a generous and talented man. I only hope I can return the favor with something I can do for him.
Thanks, Ray! :tu
