Turned Elk Antler #2
My second attempt at the Turned Elk Antler, I actually used a file to get the grooves in there :)
Overall Length = 105mm
Knot size = 24mm
Loft = 52mm
Overstuffed Silvertip Bulb
Base is Nickel Silver and Recon Turquoise
I really like the look and the feel of these brushes in hand, but they take a bit of care and concentration to work the antler on a lathe, I keep thinking I am going to push it just a tiny bit too much and I am going to see one explode :)

Have you ever tried to make scales out of Elk antler?
Nice work...
-
That is waaaaay coool . I do like that. Spinning is fun eh ? Kind of like disarming a bomb :<0)
-
I like it :tu
I figure that you are either going to stalk a bull with the proper configuration of his rack to use for brushes OR Die Trying!
-
Great looking brush! Do you have to seal antler?
-
Love it! Going to be turning some antler or bone real soon. Should be fun.
-
Nice work, Glenn-Do you get those antlers from kills, or do you find sheds? As I recall from my trips to the Rocky Mountain states, elk antler is about as ubiquitous out there as whitetail is here in the Southeast.
-
Looking good Glen, I really like how they have been turning out for you and the "turquoise" (if that is what it is?) is a nice touch. I know how hard it is to work antler from trying to make a set of scales. I have been working on a set now for going on two months and have wasted/scraped a lot.

I love the turquoise. It really compliments the antler. :tu

That is nice! Love the look. What size knot is it? Those elk antlers are thick! :tu
