Question about knot construction-TGN

What are the, for lack of a better word, the base of the TGN knots epoxied into? What I mean is, if you look at the pics of the knots for sale on their sight, the base of the knot seems to be encased in plastic or rubber surrounding the base of the knot and giving it a flat base.
How durable is this base? Is it plastic, therefore brittle? Would it shatter if struck with a hammer?
I have one of their two bands in a ceramic handle. I think the best way of removing this knot to place in another handle(do not like the current handle) is to take a hammer to said handle and shatter it, hopefully removing the knot whole. But I don't want to damage the knot, in the slightest.
Another question. If I manage to shatter the handle and pieces of the ceramic remain attached to this base, how do I remove these pieces without damage to the base of the knot?

Well since epoxy or polyester resin is a type of plastic, I am not quite sure what differentiation you are looking for. If the knot is well glued into the handle, I would not bet that you can break the handle without breaking the base of the knot. Their knots are not all that expensive in the overall scheme of things. Why not just buy a knot?

There is a chance you could break them apart and save the knot. Usually we work the other way around :<0) The first thing I would do is ask TGN. The base of a knot could differ from one to the next but they are hard. You might try sanding/cutting your way in, slowly, carefully.

70% of the time you can get them out intact,esp with wood or plastic handles,30% of the time you will trash the Knot at the base which are made of epoxy.

Thanks, guys. Your experience and advice is appreciated. 70/30 odds are not good enough for me to risk destroying the knot. I will keep it as is. Much appreciated.

or in my case im at about 99.9% cant get them out , 00.1% i can ..lol
