Holy Crap Andrew that Brush looks awesome.
Just a quick question. Did you actually glue the 2 pieces of acrylic together yourself or was it custom ordered in those colors? Curious minds want to know!
Pete <:-}
Good question Pete, I "fused" them myself. Its a solvent you use to basically melt and fuse the two pieces together.
I cut the lengths I need on a mitre saw and then flatten the ends to be glued with 600 wet sand paper. With a thinner material you actually set the two pieces to be fused together and add the solvent to the joint. The solvent is very thin, thinner than water. It migrates through the joint through capillary action and bonds them immediately. The joint continues to strengthen over a 48hr time period and then reaches full strength, which is now one solid piece of acrylic.
Because this rod is 1 5/8" the solvent has a hard time reaching the middle before it sets up.... ya it evaporates and sets up that fast!! There are different solvents, so a different one might work better for my application. But, I'll use what I got! So I drop 3-4 drops on one side while the pieces are not touching, and quickly put them together. You have to make sure they are lined up perfectly when they go together. It's nice I can do this myself because I can do any colour combination with the colours I have.
Here's some interesting info. Something I've seen done, that the duck call guys use is Flame polishing. They take a very small torch with high heat and run it over a finished piece and it polishes it like nothing you've ever seen. Its really cool. Makes polishing the inside very easy.
Here I'll post a vid.

I'll stick with my headlight polish. :)

That is some talent right there! Man that brush looks awesome. Great job!
Really, really nice, Andrew! And here I went and decided no more brushes this year! Sigh.........;)
Andrew, I'm going to have to look into a life of crime if I'm going to buy anymore brushes from you. Up till Mabel and Rudy it was a brush is a brush is a brush for me. Now look what you did to this old farts resolve to not go near any ADs for the year.
Great work as always. Now cut a few short lengths in thirds and glue them together for a tri-color handle (cut the long way.)
Gorgeous brush! Love the colors and the polish is perfect. Seeing the knot is cool too.
