My tool of choice for all my brushes is a mini Henry Taylor (Sheffield) 1/4" gouge. Don't just use the very tip and go 90degrees at the pieces. Just like a razor, try going at the piece on 60 degree angle pushing the cut line back towards the headstock. You should be cutting strands not chips when it comes to acrylic. Be patient and take your time doing the cuts. Light cuts are the key!
