Re knotted an old Simms brush

Had an old Simms brush that I steamed the old knot out of hanging around. Got bored so I took an Omega 10066 boar brush and steamed the knot out of it today. The Omega was a duplicate bought very cheap at the Sally Anne so I still have an Omega 10066 to lather with. The result.

The hole in the old Simms brush was too small so I reamed it out with a Dremel and sanding drum. I left the knot in the plastic ring so it took a bit of messing around with both the hole and the plastic ring to get a fit. The white bottom of the Simms brush unscrews from the top and is hollow. I wanted more weight to the brush so unscrewed the bottom, rolled up a flat piece of scrap lead to fit, put some hot glue on the end of the lead and glued it to the bottom inside of the handle. I sealed the lead in by topping the handle up with hot glue. That leaves room in the black upper part of the handle to epoxy the knot in. This is the result, noted the knot is not yet epoxied in.

Not the most professional job in the world but I think it will do. The reason for leaving the ring in place was because I like hoe the knot performed as set from the factory.

That is an interesting sleeve on the base of that knot. Nice repurpose of the knot.

Seems like quite a few brushes have knots with sleeves but I guess they generally go unnoticed. Plisson used a metal sleeve on the synthetic I have.

Nice work Bob. Love that handle shape and the basic black/cream coloring. I've got the same brush I've been wanting to rehandle.

I used it for this mornings SOTD and found I liked the original Omega handle better. The Simms handle is a little too narrow in the stem part for my slightly arthritic hands. I have trouble with a lot of DE razor handles for the same reason, too small a diameter. Oth it works well and the knot did not fall out face lathering. Two part 5 minute epoxy seems to work well enough.
