Hello All,
Not exactly sure where to post this but it relates to brushes.
I live in NYC with a rather small bathroom, and need a space to store around 8 shave brushes. I have a small area (4" wide and 28" high) to work with. Would any of you know anyone who might be able to design this sort of small shelf/brush holder? I am stuck here until next summer without a workshop...

Do you have a design you would like to see built? There are several wood workers on the forum so it is possible. If you waited for me to build it you might wait until at next summer. I am curious though.
Thanks RezDog. Something very simple for sure. Either small shelves or "hooks". I would love to get this done soon. Is there a list of woodworkers somewhere?

There is no list that I am aware of, but many people have posted woodworking projects. Perhaps some line drawings of what you are thinking about may pull one of the from the shadows.
Sketches and pics help visualize what you are looking for.
As Rez said, there are a few of us woodchuckers on here that have made storage racks.
Real simply, two shelves of four evenly spaced keyhole cut outs would accommodate eight brushes. Your brushes all around the same girth?
What about blades and soaps etc?
Do you want it it dark or light wood, or acrylic/lexan.
Lots of options and Idea's float around on this forum. Folks on here are most helpful.

4" wide x 28" high sounds more like the side of the medicine cabinet. Pics would help, don't worry if your maid is on vacation, we'll poke fun at you anyway, lol.
That is a fairly small are to work with especially the width but doable. You would have to do 2 brushes beside each other and it would be tight, then 4 shelves down and I would suggest a couple of bendable, metal hooks (see pics) under the bottom shelve to hang brushes by their handle for drying. Once the brushes are dry they could rest on their handles on the shelves. I have some 30 year old Cedar planned down to 1/2" thick and cut 2" wide that might work...........

Well, I use a half-bath in which to shave. Not much room. I Keep 8 brushes in there like this;

Yep! They come on a rail with 5 holders, I think. I cut the rails and drilled a few holes to make them shorter. Some adhesive-backed foam to go on the inside of the spring-loaded clamps. The clamps were a bit too strong to begin with, but bending them back to an extreme weakened them up a good bit. Lowes, hardware stores have them.

The problem with constructing brush holders is each brush is different.
You need some adjustability in the thing in order to fit all.
Anyway,
NOW, I seem to have 8 more. Really-dried-out, they reside in a cabinet in ziplocks. I rotate them in and out of those holders. ;)
A cheap solution. They come in nickel-plated as well. Some wall anchors for sheetrock, I suppose?
Very cool idea there sharptonn. I used a similar deal to hang my first brush in the medicine cabinet, same idea, just different material, less pressure on the handle but still holds it very firmly. A lot simpler than building a rack/shelf........
It would also help if you posted the picks of your brushes. In case you have a monster brush that's like 40mm x 130mm or something like that. Plus, you can't have too many pictures of brushes...
When I'm looking at this, would you like one spot to hang a brush upside down (say on the bottom shelf, in the mid front) and 4 shelves to have them standing up?

I just ordered a few of these clips for florescent bulbs, should be about the right size, coated to protect the handle and made of metal so I can bend them if needed. We'll see, I think they'll work...

T8=1 inch, T12= 1 1/2 inch, that should give you an idea, some of these clips are sturdy others are flimsy and may wear out quick.Quote:
