Made a brush without a lathe

I had some oak left over from making a razor stand a little while ago and wondered if I could get a brush out of it. Having decided it was for my own use and so I needn't get too precious about perfection I decided to give it a go.
I bought a Maggards 30mm black and white synthetic knot and used my little pillar drill to outline the hole sawing the restout with a coping saw and finishing with sanding drums. This piece was cut to give a reasonable depth to the hole and then glued to three other pieces to make a block.
I cut the block down with a coping saw to take the square edges off and then refined it with sanding drums. Final finish was with a few coats Liberon finishing oil then I fixed the knot with epoxy.
So far it works fine and the knot hasn't fallen out yet so I'm pretty happy with it. If I did another I think I would go for the smaller knot but the 30mm does make it a "special event" kind of brush.
Overall height appx 14.5cm 5cm diameter and roughly 65mm loft.

It came out realy nice.

I have seen man ppl making brushes with hand tools or anyway without a lathe...
Although some power tools are needed.

if you are realy into handle making you could try watching tutorials on how to make a lathe from an electric engine or an electric drill...some projects look realy doable.

It's gorgeous. Nicely done indeed. And the BEST part to me? It's a ONE-OFF only! There are no others like it in the shaving world. Similar, yes, but not exactly like it. No mass production here. Just a homebrew shaving brush at its finest.

A nice brush and a well done job.
Having done a few brushes for me self and some for my kinfolks. I noticed that You buy a nice brush and like it, it´s a nice brush, but with the one´s you make yourself you take to your heart and use them more often than the ones you bought.

Thanks all for the positive feedback. There is definitely something special in making an item as you want it to be. I must admit this is not something I was thinking of when I took up traditional shaving but it is a benefit for me.

That's absolutely brilliant. You must have some patience to do that without a lathe. Really well done, I'm sure it will serve you well and every time you use it you can say, I did that.
