Just started making some brushes...

Hi all after a few months of trying to perfect resin casting, spending more money than my wife needs to know about On lathes, chucks (god the attachments are expensive) and pressure pots/ compressors etc I have finally started to produce some shaving brushes and have been enjoying it thoroughly!!.
I have tried polyester and epoxy resins but they are as almost as delicate as glass, one drop on the bathroom floor and they crack or shatter So have decided to go with alumilite which is bloody expensive compared to other resins but does not shatter when coming in unison with a nice bathroom tiled floor!! some nice looking brushes Ed! How does it turn and Polish? (Looks like it turns and polishes well, but is it similar to other resins? )Do you cast round blanks and then turn them or cast them to the rough shape?

It turns beautifully, I believe alumilite clear slow which is what I have been using was designed for turners it does not chip out like polyester/epoxy.
Yes I cast in pvc pipe and use pigments and dyes to colour the resin, here are some blanks before turning.

They are tuxedo synthetic knots from apshaveco. Which after testing many samples came out on top.

With the lady folk I find the best way is to divide all numbers in half and then round down��

Very nice work. Where do you buy your resin?
I've done some work with plastic before, but this is a new material to me.

Can we see more examples of your brushes? They look to be very comfortable in the hand as well as good looking.
