Couple of brushes in sapele

The one on the left was for me,the one on the right and the soap I gave to my father in law for an early Christmas gift last night. Finish is Waterlox. My brush got 6 six light coats, his got 2 really heavy coats and a couple coats of furniture wax. Both knots are TGN 24mm premium silver tips.


Unfortunately my father in laws knot is shedding, mine lost 2 hairs and that was it. My knot is almost 4 years old that I finally made a handle for, the other I bought last month. Hopefully this isn’t a trend in quality but just a fluke. The glue bulge on the new one is huge too, I had to enlarge 1” hole to 1 1/8” to fit the newer knot.

Any how, he’s stoked with the new brush and soap. I guess I’ll order from maggards next time.

Nice brushes. Its too bad the quality has gone south on the knots. Its hit & miss now days.

Nice brushes! I've got a Larrivee acoustic guitar with a sapele back and sides. as I recall, they started using sapele and similar woods when mahogany got more rare and expensive-it's a nice wood. I haven't seen it in many other applications.

Sapele is like African mahogany, both being substitutes for the original which is rare and expensive. You can find sapele in huge widths, I have a couple at my house for countertops both in the 16” range and 10/4 for thickness. Nice to work with and pretty but the dust is irritating.
