Brush in stacked leather and brass

Been wanting to try this idea for a while and thought that it would be a good first project on my new metal lathe. Turning the brass ends on the lathe was the easy part. Preparing the stacked leather took some trial and error. I ended up soaking the leather disks in hot hide glue to harden and stick them together. the hole for the knot cup was bored on the metal lathe as a forstner bit wouldn't work. The rest was turned on the wood lathe (hardened leather turns just like wood.)

I've done a few, but am itching to do some stacked exotics. Have a couple knots coming that I think will be perfect for the projects.

Really cool design and execution, Vern-I agree that it looks kinda K-barish.

And not to hijack, but I'd like to hear from either of you about stacking pieces for turning, which is on my radar to try. Andrew-I remember you saying something to me about it on Instagram. I guess I just need to talk myself through it before I try it. So obviously you have to have your pieces totally square. I think I remember you saying to drill a 5/8" hole and epoxy everything together with a dowel so they don't come apart on the lathe? Is that right? Please correct me if I am wrong, as I want to try this with some expensive tropical hardwoods, and don't want to screw my 1st one up. :hmmm:
