Good job. Enjoy!
Those look awesome!! And I'm with Lynn I love the long handles!!
Did you buy both the badger and the handle at golden nib?
Those brushes are lovely. I really enjoy the look of the spalted maple handle. Nice work!
very nice!!! Love the long handles as well.
So I started using the Bloodwood w/ copper brush this week. It's length is perfect with my Georgetown G5 scuttle (Wife got it for me for Christmas). No Lather on the hands which means no lather on the handles of my straight or DE, goal accomplished. Also, I scored a 1950's wood lathe over the holiday, from a local barber. I took my son into get his hair cut, and the Barber and I always start talking about our purchases and I showed him a pic of the brushes I made. I turned these on my father in-laws JET lathe you see, and I was telling the Barber that I was saving up to get my own lathe. He said I have one so for $50 I bought a nice vintage lathe that I can spin some more brush handles on, at my convenince. Merry Christmas to me :)
I have a spalted maple brush handle that Jason/jballs made for me, I put in a brush from the golden nib and that thing is fantastic! I thought the handle a bit long but it turns out that I actually prefer it.
turned some handles this weekend. Just have to get some badger knotsAttachment 88674
Very NICE indeed!
Nice. Is the wood stabilized? How are you treating the handles?
Have fun.
Wow! Very nice.
Beautiful brushes. Well done
Just thinking about making one myself. How do you hold the piece for turning?
Stu
Thanks, Stu
This is another thread I started and Oscar1953 replied with a picture of his setup, I set mine up the same way.
I'm using a 1/2 Drill chuck with a morse taper #1 at the headstock and a 6mm mandrel, at the tailstock I'm using a live center MT#1, and it works great. I would check into which size taper your lathe uses, I believe most modren mini lathes use a MT #2
I purchased all this at woodcrafters. Hope this helps, I'll post a picture when I get a chance...
