Custom Brush with Burmese Blackwood Handle
Here is my second brush I put together. This time I turned a piece of Burmese blackwood and put a 24mm super silvertip knot in it. The grain of the wood is very subtle--maybe you can see it in the pics. I finished it with multiple coats of teak oil. The wood is quite dense. So, it sands down to a very nice shine and feels relatively heavy in the hand, which I like.
I got inspiration for the shape of the handle from the Greek letter xi. Can you see the similarity of the shape?

It's a somewhat unusual shape, but I like that, and I find that it fits well in the hand. The concave shape at the end gives a very comfortable and firm hold when whipping up a lather.
The blue bottle is an antique barber bottle that my father inherited from his father. If any of you have any information on it, I would be very interested to learn about it. Apparently the barbers of yester-year used these bottles to keep their witchhazel, oils, lotions, etc. So, if you know anything about this bottle or barber bottles in general, I would love to hear about it.
Thanks for looking and commenting!
