Hi there,
I'm in the process of putting together my first straight shaving kit and would like some help with my brush choice.
I'm a woodturner and was thinking about turning my own brush in order to get the best for my money. I have a few pieces of faux ivory that would do the job well but would I get a better brush for my bucks doing this?
Does anyone know any good retailers where I can buy a badger knot from and which knot do I buy?

Many members use their knots and they have some really good pricing.

Carl, I'd get a 22mm or 24mm knot, I believe most people use this size diameter knot. Unless you want the knot to swallow your face while in use, than go bigger.... As far as the grade of knot, if you want the Best, I'd look at the silver tip range of knots. If your trying to keep cost low, look at a best badger grade knot min. IMO, or maybe a boar hair knot.
It is your best bang for your buck. I bought 3 grade A silvertip knots from the golden nib.
They also have the lower grades too if you don't want to spend too much. I did one for a friend of mine and he just loves it. Their brush knots at the golden nib are very nice!!! Here's a look at mine.

I really do believe you will have a better brush for your buck... I have used african blackwood on some brushes and the results are great.
I tried ordering silver tip knots from ebay (China) and they were not as nice and soft as the ones from Golden nib.
I do recommend Golden nib.
