Generous, Foolish, or "Gentlemanly"

If I sell I do research and try and sell for the going rate. If I have to guess and just set a price and it turns out to be really low I don't mind if the buyer gets a deal and uses it. What chaps my hide is when the buyer quickly turns it around to get a quick profit.

I guess I kind of look at it two ways. When I've sold a couple here on SRP, I really just tried to cover my costs and pass it along at as low a price as I can, and usually losing a few bucks. But that being said, I'm not making a living off it, just passing on razors so I can buy others. If you're in the business, then I would expect you are selling it at what the market price is, even if that's super high at the moment.
I've bought a couple here that I know the seller could have asked for a lot more, but I understood them to be doing the same as me - they probably got a deal on them and are just passing it along. If I choose to sell those razors in the future, I for one would not ask for any more than it takes for me to break even again. Get a good score on eBay somehow? Then I think all is fair to make a reasonble profit.
So I think what you did is just fine, but would be more inclined to do it here. Seeing someone take your good deal then turn around and sell for a lot more is the only risk you take...
What's all this rambling about? I guess I feel like I'm more inclined to buy/sell at lower prices here because of the community feel. So my opinion is you were generous and gentlemanly.

I buy and sell razors an the bay. I always start them low. So long as
I am making a profit it is a good day. I would rather make a small profit than sit on the razor for a while. I hone all my razors shave ready. A $15 value that I do not figure in the resale price.

I'm not planning to become a vendor but if I have some razor I want to sell I'll try to cover my costs. I have sold "two razors here in the "Want to buy section. I feel I gave a fair price and sold a shave ready razor two people who were starting straight razor shaving. I reinvest what I make into shaving equipment, (razors, hones).

Coming from a semi noob, this is reassuring. For me this is about enjoying a really cool part of history and a great shave. It is very intimidating for me sometimes. I seem to trust adds on here a bit more, but it think it's awesome you wanted someone else to enjoy it without killing the pockets.

Magpie, you one funny fellow!

I beleive you would fall under the "Gentlemanly" heading. However, I think that when you enter the feeding frenzy that is Ebay, the gloves come off. IMO opinion, being a gentleman on SRP is a right and good thing, but ebay is for making back some of the money you have shelled out, the materials used, and time invested. I have no problem offering a good price, but I would try and find the market average and work from there.

I appreciate people who do things out of care instead of greed. I think I am like this myself, or at least I try to be. But it feels like those people are a dying breed, even though I might be wrong about that. And when people act selfishly there is less reward for unselfish people, since they don't get back as much as they give.
