not too shabby... I think I'm going to pass out if I did that? Only done a bit over 220 or so on my way to Miami
Cheers

ok that's pretty fast alright.
I've hit 130 mph on a bike once and I thought that was fast (fast enough for me anyhow). Now I feel like super wuss...
What's the 0-60 for this thing?
Justin
Better yet, what's it's nurburgring time? Top speed is nice but it's just one piece of the pie.
Here we go: http://www.supercars.net/nurburgring.html
Porsche Carrera GT beats it by 12 seconds ---- I'm not surprised.
And I don't even know if the Bugatti is a production care. Both the Carrera GT and 911 GT3 beat it at the Nurburgring.
What amazes me is that Americans typically think that 100 miles per hour is an insane speed. For example during movie car chases.
Driving 100 mph on the highway (while above the limit) is not that extreme, especially at night when the roads are free.
Hell, in Germany there are places where there is no speed limit. Last year on holiday I did 110 mph and I had to drive in the middle lane to let the fast cars get past.
Disclaimer: this is of course driving with european cars. On my honeymoon we drove a US rental car. it was comfortable as anything, but it felt sluggish and with a too soft suspension.
And not having a manual stick shift kinda sucked as well.
The Bugatti Veyron isn't about lapping a track fast as it's big and heavy, it was more a design exercise to see how outrageously fast/powerful they could make a hypercar. IIRC they sold them for £600k each but the VAG group made a loss on every one - as they cost £2m each to make. It was purely a design exercise, and of course for corporate PR "my hypercar is faster than yours" etc.
That's some pretty insane speed though. I've driven one of my previous cars (Subaru P1) at 161mph on a public road before, I'm not saying where, but there are a few places where this is legal in Europe. I've also ridden a bike at over 160mph (that was so scary I don't want to think about it). Fastest I've ever been on public roads was just over 170mph at night as a passenger in a Lamborghini belonging to a friend, the speed limit on that road was 60mph and it was about the most horrible motoring experience I've ever had.
It's well out of my system now, speed doesn't impress me any more. I rarely go over the speed limits these days, and prefer to try and go for high scores on my fuel economy computer. :roflmao
Man, I've always loved that car (and that show too, BBC rocks!)
I gotta say American muscle cars don't come anywhere near European supercars, although the prices don't either ~$1 million for a Veyron, Enzo or Carrera GT vs. ~$100K for a Viper, Corvette or Ford GT...
American cars pack lots of power but it gets wasted on automatic trannies and soft suspension that doesn't come even close to proper handling.
Not being a speed fiend myself, I don't get why you'd want a car that goes so fast. What's the point? Speed limits in Australia are 100km/h (60mph) on highways and 110km/h on motorways. Over here at least, you never get to access the full potential of your vehicle, and if you do you're either breaking the law by massive amounts or never out of second gear...
I know a lot of these cars have lots of torque, so you get up to speed quickly and can drag people off at the lights etc. That could be fun I suppose.
But I always get a chuckle when sitting in peak hour gridlock with some guy beside me in his 6 figure sports car. The only thing he's doing fast is going nowhere - and I'm keeping up with him.
James.
Fastest I've ever traveled on wheels was something over 165 mph on a KZ750 I had back in 1982 in South Carolina. I don't know how much faster because I was still picking up speed when the speedometer pegged and the cable broke. Although a helmet wasn't required in SC, I found it pretty difficult to cruise the highways without a full face helmet because my eyes just couldn't take it. If I kept the speed down to 90 or 100, it wasn't so bad, but when I was really trying to get somewhere it was just too much.... and bugs became more than just a very painful inconvenience after about 90 mph, too.
250.... That's pretty darned fast. I was amazed at just how quickly that Bugati could accellerate at high speed. MORE POWER!!!!
