Cheep, Cheep,and more Cheep

Fully understand that newbs want to start out In an inexpenve manner,A large number drop off the rolls here at SRP after a first few shave attemps.
A few things that make me shake my head:
Where can I find someone to restore my razor (cheap)
Where can I fine someone to hone my Razor (cheap)
Where can I find really cheap badger Knots.
Where can I find cheap exotic woods,Bone,Horn etc
Where can i find a cheap 9/8 Quality Razor.
Need a new strop but a cheap one.
I want to start honing my blades,where can I find really cheap hones that will work.
The list is endless:(

If you can't afford the game, don't ante up

A bit harsh but.... I would love a Robert Williams but cannot afford one. I make do with what I can afford.

Some people don't have as much cash - the world teaches us that we all deserve shiny things and so we go after them. Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers went under, from what I gather, funding hillbillies to buy mansions they could never repay. You tend to see it everywhere - the number of people driving cars they can barely afford the finance repayments for is an example you see quite often. People want sparkle but many can't afford it, for many reasons - I have sympathy for people trying to get the best within their budgets.

During a period of my young childhood life, my folks were not doing so well financially and we lived in a really crappy part of town. I remember even then being confused as to why people had these nice and shiny new cars.... and lived in such a horrible neighborhood. To be honest, this still confuses me. I would rather have a reliable used car that I have paid for than a flashy new one with payments... that they will probably trade in for another new one and more payments.

The thing I don't understand is why is it a denigrating statement to say you are Cheap? Cheap does not necessarily mean low quality. I am proud to do things economically, and I still have nice stuff because I spend my money wisely...

I don't like to overspend but sometimes one of us starts this straight journey just to get away from cartridges. I wouldn't consider these people hobbyists. So I think asking where everything is the cheapest is reasonable. Point to the classifieds, a best quality or ralf, boar brush, pick of Williams or tube of bigelo and send their razor out. What happens most of the time is they get a case of the ADs :)

Frankly speaking I usually recommend that new guys DON'T try a SR but rather go CHEAP and buy a new DE razor and some decent soap/cream. SR shaving is not for everyone. There is a considerable amount of investment on the front end and a maintenance regimen that's ongoing. A good soap/cream will enhance any shave setup so that will never be money wasted. And a DE is a minimal investment to get started with. If the hobby aspect draws you in further, then go for a new SR setup. Hopefully by then you'll have answered some of those initial concerns about cost and be prepared to manage them. But you should know that you're already a convert to the whole wet shaving thing before you sign yourself up for too much.

I can't tell you the number of the VDH brush and bowl sets I have given away. Everyone I have given them to has kept using them and a couple have graduated to DE or a straight. What a great investment and a good way to pay it forward.

Cheap does mean low quality and low value for little money. Inexpensive is the proper term for things that are worth owning and costing less.
