For The Win (ftw)

I had a great day today! For those who don't know, I am in advertising. Today I "pitched" a very important (read lucrative lol) client for the first time (been at the job for a month).

Before the meeting, I was repeatedly told by others in the office not to get my hopes up. The only reason I think I was even given the lead was because my boss was on vacation and no one really thought it was going to work out.

Either way, my team member and I worked hard prepping for the meeting. So much so I expected billing to call me into their office for time spent prepping.

Anyway, after the meeting, we got an email from the client stating it was one of the best pitches she had seen in a long time explaining how well thought out it was etc!

She closed with in an emboldened huge font - " FOR THE WIN!". Which is a little uncommon :).

It feels great knowing that - as I was told only last week by my boss that my style might be a bit too academic lol!

If an Ad Man doesn't gloat, someone has got his goat. You might as well go down with the boat if you didn't make the pitch float.

I was thinking about it :). Going to wait as I have one more gem to see come to fruition first! Pretty sure I'll sell it though.

My best "gloat" for the win would be as follow:
Many moons ago about mid 2004 in my second year working in my current job as a Mechanical Estimator, I received a tender for a major expansion of a chemical plant in town.
After a month odd of 14+ hours days of reviewing and pricing over 2500 drawings and the umpteen specifications and procedures etc.
Waking up in the middle of the night dreaming about the tender, thinking I need to remember to allow for this or that when I get to work in the morning.

I bagged my first major tender for the value of just under $22.4 million dollars.
Close to 80 people employed for about a year and a half.

Then a starting stressing out thinking "what did I miss or forget" lol

This also confirmed this saying for me:
"STRESS, is when you wake up screaming and realise you haven't been to sleep yet"

But all good in the end the job went to nearly $25 million after variations and changes and we made a hearty profit for the branch of close to 20%

Now in 12 years this has only been rivalled in stress and sence of achievement by a $32 million win of another workshop based project a few years ago,

Oh yeh and a $70 million budget that was a paid consultancy so no risk but lots of headaches for me for a new coal handling prep plant

25 million buys a lot of razors.

Back in the eighties I gave phone sales a brief go. My friend who ran the room was briefing me and I asked, "What's the pitch ?" He said, "Pitches are made on street corners, this is the presentation." Congrats on the win. :beer1:
