Hey I was just wondering if there was anybody from Winnipeg around here..
There's a whole bunch of us in Toronto and South Ontario in general, but the pickings are pretty slim in the prairies.
Nice to have another Canuck around. I think you'll have to hold down the prairies by yourself for a while. Can you handle it? Maybe we should make you the flatland lieutenant in charge of recruiting. :D

Are you familiar with The Weakerthans? They have a great song about their hometown called I Hate Winnipeg. It's actually not what you might think and a really good song by a cool group.

I believe its called "one great city" correct?
I dunno. I'm sure it's a nice place. I spent an hour there one day, literally.
I always thought the song was titled IHW though.

Bump!
I'm from winnipeg! Any idea where i can get a straight razor around here?I had a friend buy mea disposible one from some wholesaler for peole who work at hair shops, however she no longer works there and i think they only had disposibles anyway.
Member Kaptain Zero (aka Christian) is in the Winnipeg area. He hasn't been on the board much recently which is a crying shame, but he does check in now and again. I'd recommend sending him a PM.
I love Winnipeg and I'm not all that far away (still around a 6+ hour drive) living in Minnesota. I can't wait to get back there but for me it's still probably 3-5 years off.

I'm from Saskatoon.. Welcome!
Hi all;
I'm from the 'peg. Don't think there's many of us.
Eddie's Sharpening (202 Wallassey) sells straight razors, strops, soaps etc (pretty good prices). There is a local barbershop that specializes in straight razor shave (haven't tried it myself) and apparently he gives lessons , advice etc. Its called Pace hairstyling for men, and he is a block south of Corydon on Jessie (street that crosses Corydon where the big white MTS exchange building is). Edward Carrierre (Broadway at Spence)(second floor) sells wet shaving supplies (brushes, soaps, balms, oils) and might have straight razors.

I too, am from Winnipeg. The song is indeed called "One Great City", which is a reference to our recently abolished welcome sign motto. It is however, a fantastic song.
I have heard of Eddie's, but haven't had the opportunity to stop there yet. The hours aren't condusive to a drop by, as he works out of his home and often is only open 8 - 4 on weekdays.
I have a colleague at the office who's husband goes to the McLaren on Main for a straight-shave from a barber.
What do you locals think of Folklorama?

Right song, pictures of the wrong city.

Greetings Gents,
I live in Calgary. I was just thinking of starting a thread, trying to find out if there were more like me in the area but then I saw this one.
How about it... any other Calgarians?
Hey,
Also from Winnipeg - West End. Eddies sharpening is the only place I've come accross so far. He sells out of his garage and is an excellent guy to chat with. He's got some lower end Dovos some feather blades and some booster and clubman products. I've tried to engage a local potter to make us a shave scuttle like DB or Moss. Hopefully that works out.

That would be awesome. Let us know if it works out.
Apologies for reopening this old thread... but I just moved to Winnipeg and am wondering if any of these suggestions panned out? Any feedback on the above-mentioned services? Been straight shaving for around a year but am due for some honing...
