Now I know that this is something that comes up very frequently in all circles but after having read the thread on the site loading slow I thought perhaps I would conduct some research that may even prove useful for the sight, that and I haven't posted anything in a while and I missed you all.

So I am trying to see if there is a correlation between browsers and loading times. I use firefox, I was using chrome but I found it to be pretty sub-standard, I also use ad-block plus and some other plugins on a windows 7 OS. I never have any issues loading the site but I do use it on Australian time so maybe I miss all the peak usage periods?

perhaps maybe you could just share how you view the site and how it works for you, and maybe we could get some kind of verdict from there?? :shrug:

I use IE at work which can sometimes get delays & freeze if I try loading pics etc (the hinderence is mainly due to our internal IT securiy systems etc) when this fails I resort to Safari which by-passes our IT inhibitors but is slower on our server,
then at home I only use Safari on my no Ipad with proplems yet, or safari on Iphone occasionaly when out elsewhere.

I use all the majorish browsers (chrome, chromium, firefox, safari, IE when on windows, Opera once or twice, whatever it is that the Wii U uses (used to be Opera, not sure now) etc.)

SRP loads fine for me on all of them, and on all OSs I use - linux variants, android on the smart phone, IOS on the iPod thingy, windows and mac OS X. Tapatalk also works fine for me on Android.

I don't know why SRP loads so slowly for some people sometimes, but if I had to guess it would either be settings and plugins in individual browsers, people's ISPs (or how they connect to the net), or some combination of the two. Then of course sometimes the SRP server is actually slow due to technical operations like Gugi spilling his vodka and orange on the RAID array :)

I don't know there is any real correlation between a Bowser and the site here. I try to keep my bowser away from the computer. All that canine hair you know. of course she does like to read the site and swears some of the posters aren't as smart as her.

I actually have the statistics on page loads for the various browsers that people use (the real data that google measures on the actual usage).

The problem isn't the data (well actually I need to set up one more thing that probably isn't captured currently), but rather that over the last two months there's a big underlying factor which may be masking the real problems.
I already have some idea how much google's ad server slows down things, I also have some idea of the specifics in their implementation that are responsible for it, and even have some ideas how to improve some of it.
There are many things that could be done from working around some of google's poor design, to running our own ad server, to switching hosting, to embedding the ads in the page (then to block them you'd have to reprogram your browser specifically for it, not just download a popular extension). I could do any or all of those, but as some of them require significant investment on my part or would have significant consequences, I prefer to first understand the actual issues, and then figure out what would be the most appropriate way to address them.

Since I brought this issue up, in the original post, and at that time seemed to be one of very few, if not the only one, who had the issue, I must say that in the past month or two, my system, viewed on Mozilla Firefox 99% of the time, and tapatalk/android on occasion, is running like a Swiss watch. Maybe a couple of times where for an hour or two it slowed down like with the OP. So I don't know what to attribute that to, but I'm not complaining.

This was very informative, especially the blackberry usage, I thought they were on the verge of extinction...

Funny - I use an Android tablet at home to surf, a Microsoft laptop running chrome to work at home / on the road, a Apple desktop at work, and an Apple iPhone... I can't tell a difference in performance between any of them!

Wish I only had a BlackBerry and a PC running chrome. :)

In my herd, we call it grazing.

Remember, what I posted is very crude statistics. You really need to cross-reference the data against geography, time, type of content, etc. to get to something useful that could lead to actionable intelligence.

There may even be a bunch of bots to be filtered out even though a lot of them are blocked before they get a chance to register on this statistics.
