Generation War series on the Super Channel

Is anybody else enjoying Generation War Generation War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia on the Super channel? Caught the first part of a series of 3 and enjoyed it very much. Reminded me very much of the movies Cross of Iron and Das Boote.

I watched all of Generation War on a Virgin flight back to UK from Barbados. Really enjoyed it. It's interesting to see things from a different perspective. As you say, like Cross of Iron and Das Boot. Another one you'd enjoy is Downfall.

Yes, I had forgotten about Downfall. I got the 2 perspectives personally from both sides as my father and his brother were in the RCAF and my two uncles on my mothers side were in the Germany army, one of whom survived 4 years of madness on the Russian front. These movies seem to reflect that madness very well, at least as far as movies can. Glad you enjoyed generation war. I'll be watching part 2 tonight.

Watched the serie with wifey as it came from the national channels some months ago. Found it very interesting.

We both (like many people here) have family members who have fought in the German army in the past so there was some personal interest too.

My great grand father served in the German Army during WW1, at Königlich Preussisches Jägerbataillon Nr. 27, 'pfadfinders' consisting mostly Finns. It fought against imperial Russia at least in the battle of Schmarden, Ekkau and Libau (Latvia).
Later the battalion was ordered to Finland to join the White Army ('White Guards'). There was a civil war going on here.
The old man died in 1957, long before my times so i never had change to meet him.

Also one of my late great uncles served in German army, Wiking Division during WW2. My all the other family members served here but he was to young for Finnish Army. Germans were not so pedantic, so Hhe joined at the age of 15 yo in 1941 and wounded somewhere in Ukraine at 1943 and that was the end of his war. By then he was only 17yo. Just a kid.
He was one of the hearthiest man i ever knew. He died few yrs ago.

Downfall was superb.....

I am also enjoying some of the recent movies about the Eastern front as told from the Russian pov.
