Street bikes

Well, last night we went out to Velvet (HR Hotel's bar, quite nice) for some coffee / vodka / etc. martinis and started back home about 2am.

On the highway a Hayabusa smoked us. 5 min later on a bridge we got into a beggining congestion. Took 30 minutes to open a lane (and it was the emergency lane, not one of the regular), there were poplice cars, paramedics, the works. When we were passing I saw the bike on the ground (seemed in good condition, actually) in the middle lane and the helmet about 20 metres or so from it. Someone mentioned the guy is gead but I don't know for sure.

Thanks for the warning Ivo. Here we also have idiots who ride way too fast, crash and die. I sympathize with their families and use them as a reminder to play it safe on the roads.

This bike was a blast. I took it out and topped it out like once a month or more on some back roads on the way to Lake Okeechobee.
Funny how fast you can get somewhere when you're going 3 miles a minute.

Oh, and since everyone is giving you advice, get a helmet, watch out for women in Volvos, and FASTER FASTER FASTER!!!

The 750 gixxer is something that I'd like to graduate to when I get more experience. Already got a lid even though I'm sure I'll invest in something lighter next season. However, I don't think a lid would do anything at 290km/h :eek:

Took my bike out for a couple of hours today. Two experienced riders came with me (one of them drove the bike to the local community college parking lot) and gave me some pointers. They also designed a slalom course for me. It was loads of fun and by the end of it I was ready to ride the bike home. Driving stick and teaching others to do so was a definite asset as I knew all about clutch engagement and the dangers of dropping the clutch, so there was zero stalling. All in all, success :y

I almost pulled one with some rough clutch action lol. Right now my goal is just to get used to my ride and riding in general. After that I'll see what I'll be doing, but two things are for sure:
1) This season I'll be hitting some country roads and enjoying the twisties
2) Next season I'm taking a track course (just to develop my riding skills under more extreme conditions)

Ilija, that motorcycle is not meant to be driven slow. It is made and meant for the race track. I don't see how someone can adopt the city riding style on a machine built like that.

That is why a nice chopper is more suited for the city's streets...

All I can say is be careful.

IMHO there's nothing finer on a nice day than "swinging thru the curves" on a paved back country road. If you enjoy nature, it's kinda like a walk in the countryside... you see/notice every little thing along the way... flowers, animals, etc. If you're in it more for the thrill of the bike ride, it's fun that way too... accelerating thru the curves just shy of the G-force that causes you to break free, LOL.

Riding dirt roads is fun too... and the loose gravel adds a whole new dimension to the ride... think of skiing/snowboarding on ice with dull edges, LOL. Even if you don't like the gravel, practice on it anyway 'cause every paved road will invariably have a dip on a curve where water has washed sand/gravel across the pavement... and when you hit that at speed and you lay over for the turn and the tires break free, you gotta know what to do. ;)

Geeze... I'm starting to get a rush just thinking about it... think I'll go fire up the Beemer and head out for a while... C'ya :y
