British "Cosh" or American "Blackjack"?

So cleaning out my father-in-laws house today, I came across this - it's about 8" in length and has C.C.C scratched on the handle.

He is a British Veteran of WWII in Italy, and then with the Occupying Forces '45,'46.

I believe it's referred to as a British "Cosh", or the American's call it a, "Blackjack".

This looks like it would it would turn your lights out snap<snap>.....:mace:

I think that is a British Cosh. It seems to me when I had a BlackJack it was flat. I still have my Cosh though, although mine has a soft handle and a solid bulbus end.

Yes,,, they get the job done , if used correctly. They are a last resort weapon, right before firearm, & are successful if they are a "surprise",,, often they were used to intimadate (not the way they are to be used) & the subject becomes aware of their presence, takes it away from you, then beats you, with your own "blackjack". That really sucks when it happens. :shrug:

I carried this one the first 6 years on the job,,, it ended a lot of fights,,, then they were banned for us to carry. This one just collects dust now.

I think you are right Shaun. At least that is the way I see them. Actually the flat one is called a 'slapjack' by some. There was a blackjack that resembled a cosh in the USA back 40 years ago. Had a loop at the end of the handle, and a smaller knob at the top. Kind of a woven leather handle.

Those blackjacks, if in the hands of someone who knew how to use were "mean"! Saw a local cop where I used to live, use one on a guy. Knocked him on the ground and picked em back up .....Repeat! Looks like those would leave a mark! I would drive around Canada with either in your car....... Might get ya in trouble....... :rofl2:

I guess mine is spoiled then,,,, besides he can shoot & some times Dad sleeps late,,,:D
