Maybe the GOP will finally come to its senses and stop pandering to the religious right interest groups, and start campaigning about things that actually do matter to the country as a whole. No matter what anyone might think about abortion or gay marriage, until the supreme court reverses its stance, the opinion of the US president doesn't really matter so campaigning over it makes no sense.
EDIT: just to be clear, I don't judge anyone for having a stance pro or against gay marriage or abortion. It's just that a president does not have direct influence over those issues.
