So. Gents.
I have a new job, in an office. And have taken to the 3 piece suit. Possibly a bit overdressed for my work but I like it.
So, when you're dressing to "impress" what's your protocol?
My getup.
3 piece suit.
Double cuffed shirt.
One of various pairs of cufflinks.
Collar stays.
How about y'all?

If I were to have ever dressed like that, I would probably be ridiculed out of the office! Ties are usually a no-no, especially if visiting a machine shop/factory. However, for weddings and other get togethers I try to stay simple;
Silver/gray 2 piece suit
crisp white, standard shirt (faux gold collar stays)
black allen edmonds wingtip oxfords
Dinnermint. I assume you polish them oxfords 😁
Work I'm sans tie as well. We're business casual. I guess as a code monkey I get away with some "eccentricity"

Of course! If I can't see my face, it's not good enough! Well, that was the case, but they're getting pretty worn through. About 15 years old...

Probably... But when I put the suit on in the morn my toddler say daddy is ansom. Worth it hah.
My oxfords are about 7 years now. But salt on the roads takes a toll. So might go for a new pair.

I've been toying with that idea myself or having them repaired by the edmonds. Although, razors and such have been taking the top place for my discretionary budget ;)
My budget is dependent on wife hah. Although this mo th she let me buy an overcoat and suit. So she says I can have shoes in April.

I completely forgot to add my tie stuff. I use what I think is the 4-in-hand knot for ties. It's asymmetrical if you don't get it just right, but fast and no untying the darn thing after removing. If it's something on my father's side, I have a Jerry Garcia green frog tie he gave me, he won't wear it or any tie anymore. It's more of a subtle thing because we don't really get along with that side except for a few people. My father turned 55 and said "I'm never wearing a suit or tie, for the rest of my life." Other than that I have some more typical tie styles and a pink bowtie from my buddy's wedding last year. I have yet to attend an event where that would be appropriate...

Dinnermint. She manages money better than me, but in fairness, I needed a coat. Scotland is currently colder than a witches nipple.
Benz when I wear a tie (weddings, funerals, meetings, interviews) I favour a half Windsor. I'm not really into cravats. Although I like a good scarf.

On the post just before mine.
My old man had a friend who unfortunately passed on last year, but before going asked my dad to organise his funeral, and do what he thought appropriate with his belongings.
My father gave me some straight razors the old gent owned (a couple of gottas) and a tie, tie pin, and cufflink set, those are now in my cufflinks box and see some wear, they were perfectly packaged and looked unused, so I keep them for those occasions when some flare is appropriate, which to me was clearly what he did.

I only wear a tie or cravat when I'm threatened with physical harm. Those times I do wear a tie I use a Full Windsor knot and I feel like I'm the first man in my family to be lynched.:DQuote:

straight up middle brow/ivy league conservative brooks brothers 2-piece navy/charcoal suit, zegna couture shoes which are actually high end ferragamo or allen edmonds cambridge, usually eton or canali shirt, shell cordovan belt, some conservative cufflinks to match the particular belt/shoes/watch I've picked, 7-fold tie and a decent fountain pen.
Basic bespoke 2 piece with cuffed pants, French cuffed shirts, suspenders, wingtips. Outerwear consists of a trench and fedora.
