Is that a salesman's set?
Did you end up buying the Williams Mug soap?
I think it is a complete counter display set. I did not buy anything that day.
A hardware store nearby has dozens of those on the walls with different themes. John Deere, etc.
Huge cases of glittering Case knives. Want a Johnny Cash Case knife? Pearl, mammoth, you name it.
One of the partners in the store is literally manipulating pricing and holding back different models to create rarity.
One of the employees confided there were thousands in a safe. Fun to look at.
That's a pretty slick display case of Cases, I couldn't imagine what some people would offer for just the display...
I've met quite a few Case and Zippo collectors over the years. The sheer quantity of their collections can get quite mind boggling. I've seen guys with a couple 8ft tables with stuff that they were selling, who knows what they were actually keeping for themselves. Personally, my collecting of things usually stops by 10-15 pieces. Razors being excluded. Not exactly living in an "infant-friendly" apartment! :rofl2:
I would buy one or the other (sometimes both) when they held "Zippo Days" at the Zippo/Case visitors center, last time I went was 2004 or 2005. I do believe I still have a 70th anniversary Zippo and a Harley-Davidson 95th anniversary Zippo in my "memories" rubbermaid, that I picked up when they held them. It was at one of these gatherings where I purchased my Case straight, the seller had at least 45 or 50 of them stacked up on a card table, in probably every style/etching that they offered. If only I knew then what I know now, they were $20-$50 a pop for sealed razors... I've tried scouring ebay for new-ish Case razors and they always seem to be of an older vintage...
Fifty years ago I'd go into the hardware store and there would be the big Case display. Much larger than the one at that antique store. They had the ones with the really pretty bone and staghorn scales behind the glass. Fond memories.
I can relate,Jimmy. I'm so old they only had...
