I've had the X27 for a few years now, its 4 pound with 36 inch handle. They stay sharp for quite a while, I use a diamond file to touch mine up. Like ScoutHikerDad mentioned the steel seems pretty soft, its a solid performer. When my son started to help splitting his aim was a little off, that tough on handles, replaced a few in the years, that's when I got this one with a lifetime guarantee on the handle. After probably 8 to 10 cords of wood this axe shows no sign of weakness, that saying a lot since I totally dislike plastic, especially on tools. There is definitely some engineering behind this splitting maul, I find that if it wont split after a couple hits better get the wedges out.
I see fiskar Isocore splitting maul getting very good reviews. Looks interesting.
