The squirrels we have around here aren't native the imported by some locals who thought that they would be 'cute' well 90% of the time when you hear a big BOOM you'll find one of those cuties crispy crittered inside of a transformer on a pole. They have tried and tried to find a way to keep them out but to no avail.
They are expanding out from town and are now competing with the native squirrels.
