They do like to toss the belt. With the lighter fan and being sure the fan bearing is sitting on the shaft within specs, and the belt loose enough to slip the alt/gen pulley with one finger they last for years. Most people see the belt is loose and want to tighten it up. Its got to twist easy. Plus the old steel fans made it harder to keep too much slipping happening.
I do have one of those shallow pans under it in the garage. I think its 2 x 4 ft in size but only 1/2" deep. Works great.
This car came with the factory AC. After Dad installed the 140 engine he tried to put the condenser in the trunk. Louvered the bottom of the trunk and ran the hoses up and back. Added an electric fan too but it never did blow as cold as he was hoping for. So he removed the trunk parts. I got the car and it still has the factory parts under the dash for looks but no working AC. Its a convertible so I don't really see the need. The heater works and defrost and I don't really plan on driving in bad weather.
Dad took the fat bucket seats out and put in seats from a 240zx I think it was. A lot more comfortable and electric. Added a center console and had the upholstery done but that was 20+ years ago.
