Very pleased to meet you guys, hopefully we can meet and shake hands before too long.
I am not photogenic and really bad at selfies in the mirror but I'm Steve / STF.

The glasses make you look studious Steve. :tu
By the by, there's a thread dedicated to this although some of it is a little out of date.

Ha, nice of you to say but I hate those bins with a vengeance.
When I had the car accident my glasses flew off when the airbag fired so I was in hospital without glasses and couldn't even see the time on my watch, very frustrating.
Anyway. I told my eye place what had happened and they said they would bring me some new glasses as close to my old ones as possible.
I was really pleased and excited, it can't be common for your eye people to deliver and fit new glasses at your hospital bed.
When they arrived they were hideous but I was so pleased that they had brought me glasses I didn't complain, plus I was on so much morphine that I actually couldn't remember my middle name .
That's the story of my horrible gasses but I am going on Wednesday to pick up my new lovey little frames, Titanium so their nice and light.
I'll post a better pic next week.

Well, that throws the old saying "you've never seen a hearse pulling a trailer" out the window.

It's getting warmer -22f this morning on the way to work.:)
I see all the storms between here and Texas and in some ways thankful I am not driving through them!
Still it is leaving an empty space in my February.
Power is out, and single digit temps here. We lucked out in a way.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
My apartment is 100% electric--cooking, water heating, lights etc-------------BUT--------Thanks to Joel's enabling I have several Aladdin Lamps that run on kerosene so if the electricity goes out I can still have lights AND HEAT-----------which this time of year is crucial.
I gave one of the lamps to my first ex, but I still have another not shown so I won't be without lights OR heat. :tu :y

I live in San Antonio! What the hell is this?

Thanks for sending snow! I hate snow!
77° today, mid 60s now but tornado watch earlier with high wind and 2.5-3 inches of rain in about a 2 hour period. Winter weather is predictable here. As long as it keeps raining it will stay warm. Once it clears the temperature drops. We may get 30s or even 20 this weekend. Last time it snowed here was 1996 officially. We have had flurries a few times since.
Look for a car with Canadian plates. They’ll help you understand what’s going on.

You know, I can take the snow and the cold. I do know how to survive and overcome the cold. I was just being a candy ass looking for sympathy. Not to be found here. Thanks Outback for the wake up call!
However, my heart goes out to the folks who have no heat and no power, especially the elderly here in San Antonio. That bothers me greatly. There are over 300,000 people without power today. I am blessed because I have both power and heat! Stay well and healthy my friends!
It’s tough when the state/municipality does not have the equipment to manage the event.
My daughter lives in Vancouver where they get lots of rain and not much snow. This year, the sidewalks were cleared after the recent snowfall because everyone had snow shovels. They got them after the last major snow, which ended up being a disaster. Nobody has snow tires so it was still bumper cars on the roads.
Times like these gets me thinking about a backup generator system for the house.
Bob
Was just reading about a lithium battery house backup system sold by Generac. Allows you to go full off grid using solar or wind power, but you can also charge the system from your regular service and use it as a backup system for outages. We have been thinking about a whole-house propane backup generator which Generac also makes, but this seemed like a greener and possibly cheaper alternative.
I have s 800 watt generator. Had to clean out the carburetor this fall.
I just plug it into my 60 amp outlet in the garage, turn off the main, and the whole house is covered..
Only thing we don't get in Ohio, is tsunami's, and hurricanes. But we do get a bit of the chaos created by hurricane's running up the east cost.
Feel for the folks down there, but ya gotta admit.... It's pretty cool. Pun kinda taken, but to witness, or lived in the times of some of firsts, ever, or not for centuries, to happen. A lot....in the past 20 years. But seeing pics and video's of Texas.... That's like hell, freezing over.!
