Dealing with winter driving situations every year here in Colorado, Ive found non-studded tires to work just fine. A damn good set of winter tires is a must. This being on my personnal vehicles that only travel around town or less than a 200 mile circle. Now if i had to spend a week on solid ice Id go for studs, but around here its only a few days before it melts off and ice clears the roads. So IMO studded tires are really not needed in the US unless you live IN the mountains. But then again, if you live in the mountains you need more than studded tires.

Yea, I'd have to agree with you on regular snow tires vs studded snow tires because the conditions are similar here.

There is a reality TV show, Highway Thru Hello, revolving around the Coquihalla Highway through the Rookies in BC. It is amazing how many trucker do not chain up when required by law to do so.

OH no not bad at all! As I have said many times my yard now looks as good as my neighbors!

Hey Geezer , how does it look in your neighborhood? My son is working in Chippewa Falls. Sounds like you may be on the light end of this storm and myself in the middle. Not the Snowmageddon that the media wants us to think.

Looks like a similar depth as you have. It is expected to taper off about 10 PM. There is a possibility of drizzle being added to the mix. They are forecasting another 3 to 5 by tomorrow afternoon. But say high winds and blowing snow will make traveling risky for the day.
I am lucky to be here but I am concerned for the staff here and their travels.
