Maintaining Your Shave, On The Road.

I use a Frost River canvas roll up dopp kit when I travel.

I do not travel with a straight razor because for me that would be a pita. I take a Palmolive shave stick in a vintage shave stick container, a small size alum deodorant for post shave, a Muhle travel brush and a converted leather small camera case which holds a Merkur 37c slant DE plus a pack of Feather blades. Not pictured is some AS and EdC.

If I go by air the DE and blades goes in checked baggage and a couple of disposable Bic type razors go in the roll up dopp kit.

I use a the same roll-up kit as BobH. The ability to hang it clears up space in small bathrooms plus it keeps your gear away from wet counters if you happen to be traveling with others.

I'm with TC - I just toss a couple of straights into my standard toiletry kit, in a leather case from SRD, a brush in a Muhle travel tube from Maggard Razors, some soap, a little oil, aftershave and strop in my bag. I made a little travel strop and it works OK but I prefer to bring a hanging strop. I don't have a separate setup for shave gear.

I'll go you one better-How about a Gillette Sensor with hotel soap in the shower? For me, straight shaving is an at-home luxury/comfort thing-I like to keep it simple when traveling. Or on a long camping/backpacking trip, just don't shave at all-go native!

Some interesting kits here. I've been traveling on business for decades and most would grant me a membership into the road warrior club. Many years, I spent 200 plus overnights on the road. The last few years I have finally begun to scale way back on travel. I still travel but no wher enear what I used to. More like 50 nights a year now instead of 200 plus. Travel has become much more hectic in the last 10 years or so and I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I only recently began traveling with a finishing barber hone. My strop always seemed to take care of any issues, but it is nice to have a barber hone in the Dopp for really touching up the blade when you are out for a while.

I used to do a fair share of motorcycle camping and my Dopp kit for moto-camping is smaller than what I posted for regular leisure and business travel by car or plane. These days I only go moto-camping once or twice a year, so I still do it but much less than I used to. On a motorcycle, even with 3 hard luggage bags and a duffel on the rear seat, you are very limited in what you can carry. Every ounce and every square inch needs to be dedicated to necessary equipment and all equipment needs to be as light as possible. I'll post that kit sometime this weekend if I get a chance.

I stay out for one night a couple times a week. But If I'm going to be out for more than one night then I bring a real dope kit with a straight in a plastic tooth brush holder and all the minimal basics. But, Normally if its just over night then back home like usual then I just dont shave. The fun is just not the same when not at home.
