Another absence
Gentlemen, I'll be shipped off to Nevada tonight so I don't know how much I'll be able to participate over the next couple of weeks.

I'm assuming you're not going to Las Vegas on vacation, LOL.
If you're not in Vegas, Reno, or Tahoe, there's not a lot to do when you're not working... so just keep in mind that those "chicken ranches" are in little towns in the middle of nowhere, so you should still be able to have a good time. BTW, you can even get a meal and take a tour at one just outside of Pahrumph (if you happen to be in that area ).

I'll be in the boonies somewhere.. The town's big enough to have a motel (thank God) but probably not much else. Still, I guess I can check out the local fauna.

Thanks for the warning Josh. Got a white hat, a whole bunch of bandanas for under it and we'll probably pick up some beach umbrellas to keep up the shade during our borehole survey. Ofcourse, there will be lots of water.. The other 2 members of the crew are experienced field guys who did work all over the globe.

Currently in Cheyenne. I wanted to post my impressions of what I've seen of the USA..
The good:
1) Cheap, plentiful tasty food at small family restaurants. I'll come back with 20 extra lbs
2) Friendly courteous people.. From drivers who for the most part know when to get out of the passing lane (unheard of in Ontario) to excellent service in stores/restaurants
The bad:
1) "Coffee" a.k.a. tasteless brownish watery stuff treated with nasty whitener in the country that invented proper coffee-makers.. Go figure
The ugly:
1) Detroit.. Enough said

Well, some places make espresso, so if i add a shot of that to a small coffee, it becomes strong enough. Too bad there are no ways to make it fresher. I guess I got spoiled by Tim Hortons where they throw it out every 15min lol. In any case we arrived in Eureka. Tomorrow's going to be the last of our 3 moves, so when i settle into my regular room, I'll be able to make coffee the way I like it (already got the coffee, filters and even real half&half).
The place has a restaurant where you can get a decent steak and a nice selection of booze, so we won't be starving. The attached bar allows some pretty wild partying (by city standards). We stocked up on the nasty stuff like fruits and vegies to keep us healthy, so we're good and ready to start working.
