Tuesday night it's predicted to be -18.4F in Winnipeg. I may have to wear a baseball cap!

    Regards

Finally. After a pretty icy drive on Saturday followed by rain all day Sunday it snowed.

I hope that the icy crap all melted before the snow landed. I hate driving on snow covered icy roads. You seem to slide more than if just on the ice.

We did not make out too bad with only a foot of snow falling but came dangerously close to getting freezing rain. Yea, snow on ice is just a lubricant as if the ice needed any in the first place.

We're suffering through that here, had off and on rain and now a decent amount of snow. The lady and I are pretty proud of ourselves for gifting each other really good insulated winter boots for Christmas!

Got a dram or three of some nice scotch waiting for me after shovelling.

As a retired Letter Carrier, I have forgotten how many times I've made a snow angels on black ice. The worst though, is when there is black ice covered by 1/8" of fresh snow and the ice froze solid before the snow fell...... That 1/8" of snow is deep enough to hide the black ice but offers zero cushion effect when you go down. Even the spikes on my boots would not grab the ice through that light layer of snow so suddenly the horizon shifts and you fall in slow motion.... well, until you are 3 inches away from the ground and then your body accelerates to light speed!

After the freezing, thawing and the latest snowfall a couple of days ago, we're still at about 5" of snow on the ground and thankfully we're not getting REAL cold. The coldest night in our forecast is a balmy -2.2f (-19c) for Sunday. A nice change from the years when we endured ~-40f (40c) for several weeks in January. Still, there's plenty of time for it to get cold.....

    All the best everyone!
