Default The C. Virus and human reaction

It is a serious situation these days and I'm sure we are all taking the necessary steps to ensure our families and ourselves are reacting in a calm and non-panicky fashion to the world around us. What I have noticed via the internet and Facebook is an increase in memes addressing the current condition and the need to try to make light of it. I guess we are a cynical race after all.

What I want to relate is my latest shopping trip to top up my fridge and dry goods (no, I already have for years maintained a decent backlog of essentials in case of need and am not in a panic mood.) Being a people watcher I spent a fair amount of time just trying to be invisible while watching a great deal of toilet paper and beer being loaded and bought. I never looked at those items as a super survival commodity. What really caught my eye is one fellow's concept of an absolute survival item. He had a large grocery cart filled to overbrimming (and the underside stuffed full also), of every bag of potato chips he could cram into the cart. What's the old saw, "To each his own (concept of necessity.)
"The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Gallows humour can be a coping mechanism for dealing with death.

Instead of eat and drink I guess it's " let us crap and drink for tomorrow we die." I noticed that too. Just exactly how much crapping are you people planning on doing? You'd think the end times were upon us. I am neither panicked nor dismissive but is this all necessary? All the water is gone too. We often see that here with hurricanes but I just don't foresee the water supply being compromised.

I don't feel that the CFR for this virus is nearly as high as the reported figures.

A very big overreaction in my mind.

Suggestions such as washing your hands and having a months supplies on hand at any time should be at a minimum of your normal routine.

Just imagine if there was a real catastrophe, like the caldera under yellowstone blew and you were on your own for the next three years or so.

Better have loads of guns and ammo.

I was at Wal-Mart by 6 am, mainly just to stock up on some canned goods and other non-perishables just in case, and it was already getting busy. People seemed to be much more hurried than usual, though everyone seemed polite and upbeat. I got the feeling it was MUCH crazier later in the day. They were really making an effort to clean up the store, and even had an automatic floor cleaner going around.

I carried my magnun-sized canister of bear spray in my flannel work-shirt pocket just in case anybody tried to get stupid. I have never done that before, but it seemed a prudent precaution-this WalMart is sketchy even by WalMart standards. We skipped a big concert by one of my former scouts this evening in a popular outdoor pub-it would have been butthole to bellybutton. That's how I got all this razor stuff done today, which I'd rather do anyway these days.

I think the veneer of civilization in our society is thinner than we think, and maybe more thin than ever lately. All be safe.

Yea, it always was a thin veneer that has not been tested by hardship in a while. Doesn't take much to wash it away.

The virus is here in the world. Not in one country or state.

This isolation stuff is a bunch of BS. We are one whether we like it or not.
