I hope you stay safe Tim. I'm not going to play 'who knows what' with you. I am out in the public every day beyond my control and
I come in contact with dozens of people. If I through some carelessness became infected I could spread it all over town. The mask I have is not one that probably even makes a difference. It is a dust mask but I think you miss the point. I am not an epidemiologist. All I know is to take what seem to be reasonable precautions. I take what precautions I can to the point of being Overkill if necessary and I try to convey to the public that I care about NOT spreading it. A large part of my business is earning and KEEPING people's trust. Say or think what you want. I will do what I think I need to do to protect myself, my customers and my business.
Welll....Let's all be vigilant. Shall we?
Glad you folks are prepared, seemingly with many more days stock than I.
We have maybe 2 weeks supplies on hand, but are finding stock levels, and behaviors in the stores improving.
My company has been deemed infrastructure critical by homeland security so will be operating as long as we can get supplies in and out. Staff are allowed to stay home for any medical or family concerns, although we are all expected to use our vacation time up once sick days are depleted, where offered. Social distancing is quite difficult so most of us are counting on our relatively closed ‘small town’ eco system helping to isolate us to some degree. Any new visitors, or drivers are no longer allowed in freely. Locked entrances and the like. The new normal sucks.
And IF we actually do have to cease operations for any time, I’ve made arrangements to hav my crew in still earning their pays tearing into the equipment and doing PM’s with the downtime.
Keeping people busy, safe, and paid will go a long way to keep the Countries from flatlining wherever we still can gents.
Stay safe all.
:beer1:
now would be the time to do maintenance that you would normally have to shut the plant down to do.
From what I see management doesn't think that way.
But then you have a place for the workers to eat an sleep.
For me it's actually more busy. We are kind of insulated. When people have money they want to lock it up. When they DON'T have money they want to lock it up. A lot of what we are doing now is locking people out because the places are closing and no one is there watching. It would be really easy for people to pilfer especially when they figure they can't go out and buy it.
For sure. My guys would sleep there if it meant keeping their families whole. Virus’s are respected, debt collectors feared..
And like typical working men we dont do well at home for too long.
My Company has frozen all capital projects and spending, but I’m leveraging this opportunity for what it is. The only down time we may get all year cause when things recover, which they will men,,, shits gonna get busy everywhere..
To quote our past, “Stay calm, and carry on”
Since I work for myself, some personal projects are getting done as I have had the parts for some time.
Nobody is getting out much. Cam chain, oil pump, etc on my old Honda fiddy...
Trading new Chinese stuff for 49 year-old Japanese stuff..

Pretty silly in the whole scheme of things but I understand. at my work.
They remodeled the kitchen and removed the dish washer.
They put the same POS after a couple of months with no maintenance and we have to deal with it.
I l keep telling myself I am-paid by the hour.:rofl2:
Alright, I'm just going to say this and try to clear the air. This is a weird time and has created stresses that none of us are used to. Uncertainty can make you grouchy and if I have let that color my comments toward anyone please accept my apologies. Not trying to get anyone's bud lite. Just don't want to make an ass out of myself. Man I miss hockey
There was a killer Supercross season happening until it was quashed......Chad Reed is retiring. What a way to go out.
I am well stocked on vintage sheffield wedges so i'm ok
Interesting times.. Look after yourselves and stay virus free..
Joseph
Yeah Tom, I know what you mean. I live about 5 miles away from Gatorback track. I used to cliff dive in the limerock pits by it. Crazy stuff.
Also Henriq Lundquist and Joe Thornton are both making a final push in their careers and then this. Sucks for them too.
Browsing your website Joseph. Love that 7day set you've got there. Rodgers I think? Always wanted a set like that. Too rich for my blood though.
Yup, I’ve seen this.

We were out today to do a grocery run for my Mother in Law, she is 100 and in a seniors home where all are restricted to their rooms. Since we had to go out, topped up on our needs too. The 2 grocery stores and Wal-Mart now have seniors hours from 0700 t0 0800 daily so it was an early push. Last time out was Monday and the stores were decimated of some supplies. Today the shelves were in much better shape but we had to go to all 3 to get our needs. There are limits on some items now too. Things are improving. Now if we can get our fridge repaired we will have to go again next week.
Bob
I think we will all mostly be okay (at least until we aren't, but that applies to everybody). Medical workers, doctors, nurses, etc., in highly-affected areas are hanging on by their fingernails manpower, bed-space and equipment-wise. If firefighters were the heroes of 9/11, docs and nurses will be more so for this slower-rolling version, especially in the hardest hit areas.
Another thing that concerns me is that half this country lives from paycheck to paycheck, and work in the service sector (which as you all know is mostly at a stand-still). How many weeks will it be before desperate people start doing desperate things? I don't want to fear monger, but I think a higher level of situational awareness when out and about is warranted in this rapidly-evolving and scary new paradigm.
Speaking of health care workers, our daughter is a nurse and her husband is a paramedic. They fully appreciate how serious this virus is even if some of the folks they deal with do not.
They wear full protective garb when interacting with patients, although that is starting to become a supply issue. They change from work clothes to street clothes at work and shower before changing. They bag their work clothes and bring them home to wash on a sanitize cycle at home.
As part of social distancing and self-isolation away from work, they order and pay for groceries and other essentials online and only leave the car to load them.
It really disturbs them when they see and hear about the fools who pretend the virus isn’t all that serious and behave as though it will not interrupt their right to a good time. Unfortunately, some of those idiots will qualify for Darwin Awards and take others with them.
This situation is unprecedented in the developed countries and will have an impact that lasts for a long time after the pandemic is brought under control and preventative measures are developed for future outbreaks. As one epidemiologist said, “We don’t want to scare you out of your wits, we want to scare you into them.”
Talking with my daughter on the phone last night, she is isolating, but commented that it seems to be only killing the old and weak. I said primarily the old and weak are dying, every one else gets really sick and almost dies. The person to person transfer rate seems very high and no one has any immunity, so contact with other people is very dangerous. We went over some theoretical exponential math. She was much happier with isolation at the end of the conversation.
I'll have to say though, every day I see the government forcing more businesses to close. At some point I fear the government more than the virus. How do they expect these people to survive when , as Aaron said, so many are pay check to pay check. You can argue that we need to do it differently in the future and that may be true but what about the now. Nazis came to power in Germany for many reasons but largely because of hardships brought on by punishments imposed by world government. People often say,."How could they allow that to happen in their country?" Anyone who is pushed into desperation can do things they otherwise wouldn't. If this keeps up on its current course of government intrusion and violation of the people's constitutional rights I fear there may be hellish consequences.
I hope not! I am a God fearing man and I don't want to hurt anyone but if they endanger my family I will pray for their soul while I send them to meet their maker. This is after all Florida.
As history tells us, draconian stopgap measures have often been left in place for the 'benefit ' of society. Attitudes developed by the adversity are etched into the conciousness of all who survive making such measures easier to enforce.
Pulled the plug out of my 12ga. 00 Buck in it. 9mm doublestack 10+1 plus extra clip both with Barnes TAC-XPD self defense rounds in the shoulder holster and High Standard over under 22 mag short barrel rounds in the belt behind the back as a last ditch "get the hell off me" measure.
Probably ought to load up the Model 92 also. 13 rounds in it
I always carry wherever I go.
In the house there is always something within easy reach, even under my bed.
Pete <:-}
Way back in 1971 I lived off base in the top half of a duplex in Saigon Viet Nam. Across the alley there was another GI in an apartment. One night his throat was cut. That was the only time I had a loaded weapon under my bed.
I see no reason to have a weapon now.
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it
I live in a country that has declared the War Measures Act 3 times, for WWI, WWII and the October Crisis. The current PM's father declared it for the October Crisis.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_Crisis
In all cases when the cause of such actions ceased so did the measures. I see no reason that would not happen again if the current PM were to declare the Emergencies Act which replaced the War Measures Act in 1988. Many countries, Canada included, are now seriously considering enacting or have enacted similar laws to combat the Covid 19 pandemic in their own countries.
I have been lucky to never have really felt the need to go armed in public even if that were possible or have a firearm in the house solely for that purpose. Different societies have different outlooks on life. I hope I am never forced to feel like I have to.
Bob
When I am asked why I carry my standard answer is "Watch the News."
In my neck of the woods it seems like every other day a convenience store or gas station gets robbed or there is some other kind of armed conflict.
Often times there are shots fired during the altercation.
I'm not going to be the guy standing in line waiting to pay for gas that gets caught in a situation like this and is defenseless.
I see a lot of validity to the "needing it and not having it, or having it and not needing it" theory.
Pete <:-}
I am not feeling the need to go out heeled yet (unless you count the expired can of bear spray and survival knife I keep in my truck lol!). At some point back when I used to carry, I decided I didn't like the mental state it put me in, and it's an enormous responsibility as you guys know, but everybody has to make their own decision on that.
I suspect that the new curfews and lock-downs in more and more cities and states is about people control as much as it is about CV control. When some of these shuttered businesses start getting looted in desperate areas, things could get much more tense nationwide very quickly. For now, my feeling is that it's best to go out in daytime, and don't look like a victim.
That said, I just took our dog out for her Saturday ride to run some errands, and everyone seemed pretty calm about things.
I subscribe to the caution and observation side of this. Sure, something is always handy but I hate to pull-out the big stuff unless it seems to nearing a necessity.
Locking and loading in a situation brings a sense of paranoia in my case at least. Keeps thoughts away from where they should be.
Being organised in this regard pays-off for me. Locking and loading was done long ago, pretty close at hand.
I don't worry about it and won't until I have to. Eyes open, carry-on. Have faith..
OK guys just a reminder.
Discussions of gun carry is a verboten topic on this site.
You can talk about "guns in general" all you want but when you start with carry and guns all over the house and "being ready" the line has been crossed.
I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
Edit: pardon me. I posted before I read them all. Mum's the word then?
^^ Thats pretty funny actually^^

I swear the way things are going I just may be able to cuss somebody to death! Attachment 317674
Cuss em up Tom!
