That is one cool looking trap.

I was thinking more along this design. I have made them and never bought them but for $9 it might be hard to make your own.

    That's the one I got. !
Didn't pay a dime for it, pulled it out of someone's trash can. Seen it sitting on top the can, while driving down the street. Picked up a fly rod, that way too.

So...I was back out pestering the gill population, yesterday.
Had to search for them, a bit more than usual. But I did manage to find um in some unusual places.

I used a 2", white curly tail, on a 1/32oz. jig head as a search tool. Casting around and in between hundreds of docks, it would locate the active pods of sunniest, roaming thru the lake, or notify me if there were gills nesting there.

If a nest was suspected, out came the fly rod, and the hares ear nymph.

Fishing with ultra lite tackle, and 2 lb.test fishing line, this quality of fish, puts it to its limits. But its a blast.!

I only do this kind of fishing, in the spring. Its my duty to supply the majority of the fish, for our annual, family reunion/fish fry. A wise choice, by the way.

This year's festivities, will start with spreading the ashes of one of my aunt's, back at the family farm.

I am from East Texas. Dropping all the Christmas trees you can get 100 ft from the boat ramp off to the side.
You don't need to start the motor. Troll out there and toss simple white jigs. Filling up the bucket.

Here come the game warden in his hot-rod flat-bottom. Has other LE's with him. Washes us off the hole and all were fishing.
    Took all of 30 seconds.

    A willow. good one!

Actually... A 5' ultra lite rod. Gives better accuracy around docks and in tight places.

We call it...hooking a dinner plate. When you hook into a big sunny, its like attaching your line, to the center if a dinner plate, and trying to real it in. Such a blast.!

I question your statement about the better accuracy with the short rod. If I was fishing docks I could use the 7 footer like a cane pole. My buddy likes his 9'. A fly rod blank made into a spinning setup can be interesting.

I fish mainly to the shoreline and into fallen trees. If you get to close you can scare them so the longer casts are nice.

I am a little different than many though. For example I like to use a 15 foot cane pole to fish trout in small streams.

Cane poles have their place, too. I've got two, twenty foot, telescopic poles. I set them up with porcupine quills, using the European match fishing, system. The best light bite system I know, for inland lake, yellow perch.

    Nice catch, Mike.

The job site I’m on has a bunch of giant bamboo on it. I’ve got one piece cleaned up for a poke pole, need to get a couple more for the kids and wife. We’ll go do some poke polling for monkey face eel when the the minus tides start up.

Oh well. I ain't been fishin', but I took my dusty old minnow trap home and washed it. Used some recycled solar lights with it.
    Enjoying it in my room!
