In this bad breakup scenario, do these mutated States, for lack of a better word, remain as part of the USA? If so, I do not see that as ultimately solving the internal divisiveness on a national/federal level of governance.

You know funny thing, if people in the US would just read the constitution it can all be solved through it, including this
There was never the intention of such a centralized Government, perhaps we Americans might learn this before things get even worse than they are ..
Rule number one is the constitution. It was written to guarantee certain rights to all citizens. A stop gap if you will. But the idiots think it's outdated. People kill themselves to come here. And some people here say that this place stinks. Idiot governor of unnamed state said "America was never that great". I wish his grandparents were here to slap him. If you don't like America there are plenty of socialist places to go. And leave us all the hell alone. My parents were immigrants. Legal immigrants btw. And even though they have a feeling of their country of birth, my dad has even said that when he came here if there were a war he would have to shoot them. Because this is his country. I have spoken to many people from central america. They come here illegally or legally. Their kids are born here. And when I tell them their kids are gringos, they say no they're Salvadorian, or Honduran or Guatemalan. This is a problem. Because if the people.here have no allegiance to their country, they should get th hell out. If there was a war on the streets I would give them hell. As much as I could as this is my country. If you love it you should be willing to die for it. If not then go! Leave us all alone. We live in the greatest country that ever existed. And people want to turn it into something else. One question. If america goes. Who will be the country to take them in? If it wasn't for america where would all the people have gone?
Love it or leave it. God bless America! Warts and all.
That is an interesting concept. I have never seen a country without multiple levels of government with a Federal/National government at the top. All are "centralized", some much more so than others. The degree of centralisation runs all the way from dictatorships to the various forms of democracies. All large companies are run top down in the same manner but again some more so than others. Very hard for me to envision no centralized government.

It would benefit everyone to be able to listen to both side of an issue. Unfortuneatly if the main stream media is your only source of news than you are probably hearing a very biased viewpoint. It should scare everyone(no matter what your political persuasion) to know that some of the most influential social media platforms regularly censor the free speech of certain points of view. (and even talk of some sort of truth commission to make sure only the" truth" is told).
Not sure where we are headed but barring some sort of divine intervention, i don't see any way to avoid some sort of major division or a country that we no longer recognize as the good ol' USA
America may go the same way as the UK, the United Kingdom is made up of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
For many years those four countries were run by the British government, based in Westminster, in London. But the way the UK is run was transformed by a process called devolution. https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52633182
There has to be a centralized government if only for the reason there are services and things individual states can't do by themselves. Many of our states in the south, mine included are basically one industry dirt poor places. If they were cut off from a centralized government they would go down the tubes. These states now take way more than they produce.
The problem with breaking up the country into regionalized entities is this would lead to mass migration of people on a scale never before seen. Many corporations (which states count on for employment) would pick up stakes and move to the most advantageous region. Can you imagine having to get a passport and visas to travel across North America and deal with currency exchange and a host of regional laws. Many would be very unhappy with changes to the regions they are living in.
When you stop and think about it a break up might be appealing until the "Smart guys" start figuring out the details. Then it might not be so appealing.
After the Civil war during reconstruction it was a terrible time across the south. Most know nothing about it and what was going on. I dare say even college graduates are ignorant about it.
There is a Tom Hanks movie titled "News of the World". It gives somewhat of an idea about this period and is worth watching.
