Hi guys,
Hope you are all doing well. Haven't been active on the forum for some time so I wanted to check in and see what everyone was up to. How is life treating you? Got any big projects going on? Additions to the family?
Work and family has been keeping me busy, but my family is doing well so I'm thankful for that. Would like to check in more often to see what everyone on SRP is doing.

My current shaving-related activity is building a lightbox to photograph my razors. Still have a few things to do to it and a bunch to learn but so far, so good.

Picture I saw was a marked improvement! I got a cheapo lightbox, but I think I would need to work with some different lighting to get good pictures from it. The LEDs are really bright.Quote:

All is well here in the eastern end of Ontario. The tail end of last year was a rough patch around here, so I was more than happy to see the back end of it and am optimistic for a better 2022.
It has been a weird stretch for me in terms of projects, with a bad case of inertia keeping me from getting to work on anything very involved. The next big project is to make some damascus billets then play with some copper to see if I can make some "cu mai" for knives and/or razors. There. Now I've said it here, I have to make it... wish me luck. :)

It's a piece I found in my local metal supplier's offcut bin a couple of years ago and grabbed just because it looked like something that would come in handy one day. So far I've only really used it for spacers on knife handles, little things like that. If memory serves it's a couple of inches wide, a bit under 1/16" thick, and a couple of feet long, so it should work well for this purpose.Quote:

I just hate placing small steel orders and don't have the $$ for a large order right now.

Been living in my inlaws basement for about 8 months while our house is being built. Closing in March so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Gonna take a while to get the Razorlab up and running again but it will happen.

Almost got this finished last night but I had to set the handle aside for the epoxy to cure. At least the blade is pretty much done. This is coming out of a coffee etch (ferric chloride etch to start, cleaned & degreased, then into really strong coffee) which worked really well to darken the dark bits.

I'd like to try that some day, but I don't think it will work with this billet. I have a pretty short, square piece left, and with just steel that would be easy to re-shape and draw out for a razor. But this stuff really only like being squished in one dimension.Quote:
