I know some of you have your CCL and have your favorite shooter at the ready. But for those folks in the UK who don?t, do you have a blackjack or sap to stand in should good turn to bad?

I'd much rather carry a blade. But a ballpoint pen, or a set of keys will suffice. Eyes, throat, or knees. Take away any of these three...man don't wanna fight. :nj
Ya, I carry a PM2 but I suppose blades are illegal in the UK. Not sure even Blackjacks are legal there.Quote:

Illegal to carry here in Nebraska but ok to own. I've made a blackjack and a slungshot, just because I wanted to.
The slungshot has about 9 ounces of lead shot in a leather bag, packed very tightly, it is as hard as a rock.
The blackjack was made from 3/8 dia polycoated steel cable with 6 nuts threaded onto one end.
Both could be incapacitating or deadly, depending on strike placement.
Given the carry laws though, a knife or tactical pen, keys etc. would be a better choice.

Since Covid days and all the defunding Police along with revolving door for violent crims and mental cases, I can go days without seeing a policeman around here.
Seems they only stick their heads out until called to survey the aftermath.

Problem with concealed carry is in the name. It's not a deterent if they can't see it. That's the argument some make for open carry.
Florida has interesting knife carry laws. You can open carry any knife that is not a spring loaded projectile. If it is concealed in your pocket or covered by a jacket even you have to have a CWFL (Florida calls it Concealed Weapon or Firearm License) unless it is under 4 " in length or considered a "regular pocket knife or multitool." BUT, if it is in plain sight you can carry anything up to amd including a sword or machete....:shrug:...I don't make em up, I just live by it.
So, since CC is "concealed" I also open carry a fixed blade as a visual deterent. 9MM in the front pocket though.
Bob, you know, I am a locksmith and in this profession people will drag you right in the middle of their disputes without telling you and expect you to take their side while they use you as a human shield. In spite of all this I never carried for over 35 years. Maybe that was just blissful ignorance. Then the housing bubble burst and in 2 years I rekeyed 401 foreclosed properties. Couple with that that people were in the middle of the Great Recession and some had become desperate. Add on top of that the rise in drug use especially meth. I never did but I know locksmiths in other areas that walked in on meth kitchens. Those guys are nuts to begin with and now they are maybe high as a kite and facing serious jail time but they are holed up in a place that has no links to them. God only knows what they might do to some poor unsuspecting soul who stumbles into their off the grid operation. They could kill you and vanish with no way to trace them.Quote:

I turned a fat short baseball bat on the lathe one day. The fat end has a 4" diameter. The Bat is 14" long and the handle is a comfortable grip for swinging it. When it comes to violent situations probably the most important item in a fight is the thing between your ears.
At the Police station where I worked many years ago there was a sign at the end of the pistol range above the targets: 'Think it out, don't shoot it out'
My Aikido Sensei also imparted some wisdom: "The best way handle a fight is not to be where it happens".
From bitter experience, I know many confrontations happen very fast indeed.
I think I should clarify that a bit. Over the past decade or so there has been a huge increase in deadly drugs coming in from the US and Mexico plus our own home-grown stuff. This has brought with it a huge trade in selling the drugs as the money to be made is astronomical. Many gangs are involved now and all as part of the tools of the trade have illegal firearms with many turf wars. The Ontario government has recently stated the 91% of the firearms seized in drug busts have been illegally smuggled in from the US. All this is a huge change from my younger years 50 years ago. We are not alone in that many other countries are suffering the same way. The solution to the problem is very complicated but I will say that more firearms legislation like what was just passed will not help. You can only go so far legislating laws aimed at firearms and we are well passed that point in Canada. Doing that has become the low hanging fruit solution for politicians to say they are doing something to combat the violence. That pacifies the general public to a large extent. Sorry for the rambling post but it really is frightening how times have changed here in Canada.Quote:
