NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Some of you might remember the pocketknife I was looking for a few months back.

Well....cutting through a Tie-Rip today I shot through and cut into the monitor powercable (I'm an idiot....I made the same misstake all newbies make and I'm not a newbie when it comes to knives I pushed instead of cut :nono: (moving motion)......maybe too much time with razors or something)

Anyway...cut monitor cable, the plugs...whaddoyoucallem blew out on the computerblock and....a massive chip melted out of the edge of my knife...:eek: -:cry: :cry:

If I grind it down about half of the knife will be left.


Anyway....just wanted to share my grief that's all.

That's why I use a cheap and cheerful paring knife for jobs like that.

The other day I blew up my computer trying to switch it off when it did not respond to any command. Instead of the on-off switch I used the 110-220V switch. Result: a tiny cloud of smoke emerging from a then dead computer. Fortunatelly the hard disk survived! A new feeding unit (is that correct lingo?) solved the problem.

Ouch! :(


Kees: Voeding = power supply unit (or PSU).

That is exactly why I don't want to have 'looker' knives. I use them without caring for wear and tear.

I would kick myself not for destroying the knife (hey, its just a knife) but for damaging my computer. Come to think of it, my computer is about the only thing where I spent real money on. Well, that and my tools.

Was that the damascus knife you bought?

I use a wire cutter to cut zip cords. As for the knife that sucks.

If I have to cut tie rips I either cut them with a plier, or I stick the point of my knife underneath it and then pull the knife outwards while making a cutting motion.

It was only a power cable (couple of bucks worth) and yes....it was my damascus :cry:

Any other knife I own'I wouldn't have minded much coz I didn't spend a lot of money on them.....but this one I was quite proud of.

And I know how I SHOULD have done it......I just didn't think....

Kees, the English term is power supply. On that note, in Serbian, the name of the unit translates into the verb where you let animals drink water. I guess it's a Euro thing lol

You know if you just hold the power button on the front of the computer it'll do the same thing, right?:)

That sucks Alex, zip ties can be a pita. For computers, I've become a believer in the velcro cable managers. They work so well and they're re-usable.
