Wow, lonely thread here. While I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, he is a great musician. Dire Straits Alchemy Live is one helluva an album:bow . I'll have to check out that new one.

I'm more of a fan of his guitar playing than anything. His solo stuff doesn't resemble Dire Straits ---- I'd say it's more along the line of traditional/folk --- very British/Scottish --very good.Quote:

Knopfler is best known as lead guitarist & singer for Dire Straits. I believe he also did the soundtrack for the movie "The Princess Bride".

How does the new album compare with his earlier solo albums in terms of style? I do like his solo stuff but not nearly as well as the Dire Straits material. "Sultans of Swing" was an absoute revelation the first time I heard it.
