Wet shavers group on Last.fm

I posted this before the crash, and thought a repost would be good.


I don't know how many here use Last.fm, but perhaps there are a few. I started a group on last.fm for us traditional wet shavers. I was curious if we'd have any common tastes or if our tastes would be all over the place. Anyway, for anyone interested who uses last.fm, join The Perfect Shave.

Because there were people joining the group who were just joining to get into as many groups as possible (yeah, there are people like that), it now requires approval before you become a full member. To join, just click the join button, and post in the "Shoutbox" on the group page saying something like "I'm a wet shaver, let me in!" (or something else, just make it clear you want to join).


For people who don't know what Last.fm is:
Last.fm is a website which allows you to track which music you are listening to, and also get recommendations based on what you're listening to. Last.fm also has a media player which works as an internet radio player that plays music you are likely to like (or other music tagged with particular words you choose). To enable the tracking (or "scrobbling" as they call it) you have to be using software for which plugins are available, such as Windows Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp or the Last.fm radio player.

Just joined last.fm and your group thinking that it integrates with my Squeezebox or SqueezeCenter. Puzzled as I can't locate it on the SB now? Anyone else use a SB and might know? :shrug:

Thanks! I'm now all scrobbled up and you'll be able to see how my musical tastes are eclectic, bordering on schizophrenic!

Just one question... what's the point of scrobbling? Seriously, I'm not sure I get 'it'? When I next play something on my Last.fm player, do I get introduced to new music based upon my scrobblings or something?:shrug:

EDIT: OK, I'm starting to see the point now. It shows me others with similar tastes (one guy in the US has a scarily similar collection of music as I do!) and I can listen to their radio stations and discover new bands and albums I was unaware of before and likely to enjoy. Never heard of Iron Wine until today and I think I may go and buy the CD. The music companies must love Last.fm -- clearly it drives sales!

Yeah, and on your "dashboard" page there should also be a list of recommended artists as well.

And out shaving group has a group radio, which plays a mix of music matching the tastes of all members. And there's a "radio" thing on your userpage as well which will play music it thinks you like.
