Do You Think GWB Hates Al Gore?

Skepticism is fine, but it should probably be moderated if the clock is ticking as badly as we're told.

And everything I've read or heard confirms that there is, indeed, near-unanimity that climate is changing because of human activity. Scientists disagree on the exact mechanism, which gives the oil companies the chance to say 'See!"

Its kind of like the evolution debate. Creationists take disagreements between scientists on the exact mechanisms of evolution and claim that these prove that the theory is false. It's not how science works.

If, on the other hand, you've heard something that suggests that scientists are NOT in agreement, well, then...

There was a thread a few weeks ago touting a petition of 30,000 scientists who claim to disagree with climate theory. I checked two names at random. The first was dead and the second, a college professor, claimed never to have signed and was outraged that his name was attached.

Not proof, with such a sample, but suggestive.

The thing that make the whole global warming phenomena far from credible is that currently every little thing is getting blamed for it without looking at it objectively or in any kind of scientific way.

For instance: I recently heard a "climatologist" in California blaming the recent forest fires on the warming of the globe. Now I know that half a degree gets wood that much closer to flash point but give me a break, its far more likely that the Govenator flicked his ash off his balcony at the wrong time than that the global conditions just happened to hit California in the right way to cause 30+ fires in a month. Not to mention in that same month over here on the other side of the country we have been experiencing cooler than normal temperatures and record rainfall. You can't have it both ways, and Occam's razor usually shaves the truth.

If I am going to be wrong (which I will be about something) I'd rather err on the side of conservation. I don't have any control over what anyone does but me. If China posions the environment and ships us posionous toothpaste, I can't stop them. However, I have no reason the spend time and energy trying to defend behavior that obviously is not helping save the only planet on which I depend.

That's a great way to view it. Unfortunately the government likes to have control over what everyone does

I cant remember the source so please excuse me, but I've been told that one volcano eruption will spew more ash,smoke and gasses (cfc's) than mankind has ever spewed in their history, and I have to agree that the developing nations dont give a hoot about pollution. BTW, wasnt there a thread here just recently about how Al Gore beat out a polish woman for the prize, Al Gore riding his white horse versus a woman who risked her life saving hundreds of Jews from the nazis. Who'd Al save? When did Al risk anything. Al &GWB same ol' ****.

Gore didn't give himself the award. He didn't nominate himself, vote for himself, or campaign for the award. He was just given the award, and he accepted graciously. You'll have to look at somebody else to blame for the Polish woman being passed over.

When commentators mention things like the California fires (responsible commentators, that is), they may say that such events might be typical of the projected effects of global warming, but the never say that this particular fire is caused by it. More, and more violent, Atlantic storms might also be a typical result of global warming, but that doesn't mean you can say that this year's season is a direct result.

There will be results, but beyond elevated ocean levels, it's kind of hard to say for a certainty what they will be. Personally, I don't care to find out.

Nord Jim, he couldve turned the award down or ask that it be passed on to someone more deserving, instead he used it to fuel his personal star.
