Grr! Stupid people make me sick!

Unfortunately I can't go into too many details, but there's one I can be super clear about: I hate stupid people! The ones that ask redundant, pointless questions that have no bearing on the situation whatsoever. One likes to think that your coworkers are mostly sentient beings, but some of mine never cease to amaze me at how unthinking and literally stupid they are. One of my many jobs involves being on call quite a bit and often entails working with the police. It's easy enough and the rules are easy and clear. But rather than just thinking about how each rule will effect a situation, my dumbass coworkers will ask an infinite number of "what if" situational questions when we go through yearly training. I'm not the most vocal guy, but I wanted to just stand up and yell "are you even thinking about what you're saying?"

ARGH!!!

Anyone else got some stoopid people angst?

I used to get angry with those I thought dumber than myself; then I could feel smug as they ain't I. Then I started to listen more closely to some and I aren't so smug no more.

Some people just like to hear the sound of their own voice and can't stop asking questions or making useless comments because of it....I share your feelings about them.

I feel your pain. Other times, I think I am that person, depending on the situation.
Still, nothing like reading the manual in advance.

I have no issues with questions- I ask many of them and try to answer them when I can. But imagine that you had just told me that if I placed my hand on a hot stove, I would burn myself. Simple enough, right? Now imagine that I begin asking questions like "so what if I place my hand lightly? How about if it's the top of my hand? The side too?" These, to me, are stupid questions. The statement "you will burn your hand if you touch it to a hot stove" covers all those questions. If you ask any of those following the original statement, you are not listening and attempting to understand simple concepts. I kid you not, the types of statements made today, as well as the questions, were of exactly the same comprehension difficulty as the above. Hence my frustration:gth

I try to look at it as an opportunity to teach, to help people grow. I used to just give them the answer, but then they become totally dependent. I now try to make it a learing experience.

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you'll feed him the rest of his life. Likewise if you build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day. But, if you set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Stupid people are my nemesis.
Same for stupid procedures.
Both really get on my nerves, so I try to ignore them, work around them or make them go away.

seriously, though, I'm lucky in that most of my coworkers are also engineers, so apart from occasional theoretical impracticalities, they are a pretty level-headed lot. when I have to deal with non-engineers, though, it very nearly always makes me hate my fellow man; I just stare and wonder how they damaged their brains so that they are incapable of logical thought.

I might add that I've had to start wearing either headphones or earplugs on the train everyday... overhearing the conversations of the average public transit user was enough to make me lose all faith in mankind, and start wishing for the destruction of the species. ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

I used to try to make it a learning experience for this bunch, but it becomes immediately clear that they are not only uninterested in learning, they've misinterpreted their entire job. What kills me is it's the same people over and over again. I actually had a complicated funding question that is near and dear to me that I raised and immediately after I said it, one of the aforementioned individuals yelled (no lie, yelled) an answer that was so factually wrong that immediately you know that they just like to talk. It's times like these I wish I could help them be warm for the rest of their lives:w

There's nothing wrong with asking questions in my book, as long as the inquirer made an honest attempt to think first.

If the questions continue to be utterly retarded, I try to have as much fun as possible with it, rather than getting mad.:D

In the Army, they used to say, "You can what if this s**t all day, son, Just learn the procedure, and then use your best judgement." I think that's a pretty good answer to everyone's what ifs. I am a Paramedic, and often have to mentor students and new medics, they what if every situation, and I give them the same answer. It satisfies them...well...at least it shuts them up.

I have been learning some new procedures, one of which is a safety inspection that requires that you go outside and make sure everything is in place and working. One of my classmates actually asked if we still had to do the inspection in the rain. The instucter was already fed up with this guy so she said "everyone else can skip it but you have to do it twice!" I'm liking my trainer.

I saw Kwai Chang Caine do it on "Kung Fu" as he was leaving the temple, and it left him with some badass tattos.

So: don't touch a hot stove with your hand. Use your forearms!

I don't have a big issue with stupid questions as much as with stupid drivers. I swear some people found their driver's licenses inside a box of Cracker Jack! :rant:

I'm an engineering student, interning in an engineering group, so when I get outside of the engineering world I do sometimes wonder what happened to peoples brains.. I read Dilbert frequently!

One thing I've learned is not to equate intelligence with smart, and lack of it with stupid.

My sister has always had problems with math, science, computers, and things as simple as first order equations. When I was younger, I always thought ' how on earth is it possible that you don't understand this'.

But fastforward 10 years. She is now a social worker, working in the trenches so to speak.
sometimes she tells about her work, and the things that happened that week.
She has told me stories about horrible situations where she is the one to act and make decisions, knowing fully well that there will be no happy endings. Only bad endings and worse ending.

Some of those situations would have had me freaking out so bad I would have flipped, done wrong things or sent me into a depression. Most of the intelligent people I know wouldn't be able to handle them either.
And yet she does, keeping her sanity, raising hell when the situation calls for it and not shying away from talking even the DA into submission.

So even though my father has to explain the working of a simple digital camera several times, and first order equations cost him dozens of hours and grey hair, she is far from stupid. She is just smart in other areas.

I'll remember that, I've been looking for a way to keep people from asking questions that could easily be figured out with the use of common sense. I'm in NROTC and have had to sit through so many dumb questions that I was ready to strangle the asker... example- "Sir, would there ever be a time when the boat will run out of food, and necesitate dragging a net behind the boat to catch fish?" asked to a USN Submarine CO by one of my peers.

I guess all you can do is know that there is always going to be "that" guy/girl in every group
